'Song Recycling' Opinion

'Song Recycling' Opinion

I am absolutely being childish right now, but maybe it's not so bad because I can recognize the fact LOL.

Would you use a song for one of your 'major songs' (first dance, last dance, cake cuttings, garter/bouquet, entrances, etc.) if it was a major song at another wedding that would have had some of the same guests?

Completely hypothetical of course

Now that the cosmo-haze and hunger pains have worn off, I'm a little annoyed at the fact that our 'last dance' was the 'first dance' this past weekend. Part of me feels that I shouldn't have to change what our plans were, but the other more spiteful and immature side is like bag that, I don't want any part of OUR wedding to make the extended family stop and ooh and ahh and be like oh they're playing their song! Especially because FH is in 110% agreement with me for once that that whole situation was a flipping disaster, as those who had FM-ed me know.

So I'm curious to see what everyone else would do in this situation, or am I just being a bitter harpy? LOL.

HA I don't think you are being a 'bitter harpy' You are too funny!

It took me a LOOOONG time to find the songs that I wanted. So if one was played at another wedding, I think I'd still stick to my own list. I can't even tell you what my MOH's first dance song was...guess it might just be me though - I don't pay attention to these things.

I think you need to use the songs YOU like regardless of if and wen they have been used previously :)

As long as it's not the first dance song that's the same, I think it's totally fine.

Do what you like!

I am hyper aware of everything at weddings these days - because I'm planning my own. But I guarantee you if I used the same dances as say my cousin, other family members would not remember and even if they did, it won't take away at all from YOUR day!

Plus by the last dance, the guests will have had a few drinks and will just be in the moment!

I am hyper aware, too, but I don't think most people would remember. I couldn't tell you the last dance at any wedding I have ever been to.

I agree! Who cares if someone else used it... if it means something to you and FH, you should totally use it. But I do have to say that there was a song that I heard at another wedding...and FH and I took it off our list... I guess we were also being 'bitter harpy' too or whatever you called it LOL!!! But the difference was, that the song that was played- it didnt really mean anything to FH and I so we changed it without even thinking twice about it.

Re: 'Song Recycling' Opinion

Unfortunately, this song DID mean something to us, well, FH at least...back in the day when his grandfather was a lot younger and more with it, they had massive parties, 2 day affairs that involved, food, music, and their own private bar....and all the old Italian songs, Sinatra, Dean Martin, Louis Prima, all them. So he really wanted to do a lot of that music to honor his grandfather, and our song choice logically made sense for this, since it's GOODNIGHT, not hi welcome to the wedding

But I feel all soured now on it. FH was more concerned if it was going to be She's Got a Way, which thank god because I would have jumped out the window, but this is just as annoying. Chosen for similar reasons...which is all nice and well, but not for nothing, I'm not picking our first dance because it reminds me of MY great uncle's parties, know what I mean? Especially when great uncle's grandson is getting married soon too, and maybe that might have meant something to him as well.

Ugh. Whatever. Does anyone else have any other ginzaloo song suggestions for me that can be used as a last dance?
