Song to walk down the aisle to?

I have a few questions about this.

My mother and father are both walking me down the aisle. Both of them (including me) want to walk down the aisle to 'Only Time' by Enya. We all love the song and my mother cries every time she hears it now! Well, we have hired a string ensamble to play during the ceremony and coctail hour. They play mainly classical music and said that they will try to accommodate requests. When I asked them if they could play the song they want, they said 'doubt it'. Well, I really wanted this song and now are considering having it played on a CD. It would be only during the bridal party/bride procession that a CD is played. Do you think:

a) it's cheesy or ok
b) a waste of $ to do this
c) would you do the same

and finally:

d) what are you walking down to and who is playing it?

Thanks for your input. I have to make a decision soon!

Kelly

Re: Song to walk down the aisle to?

hmmm- if you already booked your quartet, I'd forget the CD and just choose another song that they can play. Do they have a decent list to choose from? Is it possible for them to learn the Enya song? If you're already paying for the live music it would be a shame to hear the most important song on a CD, IMHO.

We hired a quartet for our ceremony, and my mom and I are walking down to Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring by Bach.

If you need some suggestions, go to my string ensemble's website - http://www.sterlingmusic.com/
there's a full list of what they play, and I'm quessing most quartets are the same.

Re: Song to walk down the aisle to?

Go for the CD if that is the song you really want. I say not to use the quartet just because you have them - it's only one song, right? We only get one chance to do this - go with your heart. Just my opinion!

Re: Song to walk down the aisle to?

Agree with Teri. The effect of a live quartet is really beautiful. Youve spent a lot on it, you should use it for your big entrance.

Only Time is a beautiful song but really hard to replicate since it uses synthsizers.

Re: Song to walk down the aisle to?

I have to say Kelly, that I wanted Only Time too, but we hired a violin and cello and changed our selection, so they could play something instead of a CD. That was our preference - obvioulsy, I will tell you to do, what you really want to do!

We walked down to Wedding March, but my girls walked to Pachelbel on Cannon and his parents and my grandparents walked to Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring!

Good Luck with your choices,
Cira

Re: Song to walk down the aisle to?

I am new to this board, and new to the whole wedding planning thing, so forgive me if I seem out of line with my two cents.

I think you should play the CD, if that's what you want. I'm a firm believer that my wedding day is 'MY' wedding day, not what others may dictate it has to be.

If you want the song, and the quartet doesn't know it, or won't learn it, then play the CD.

Alright, you're paying the quartet, but how long is the song? 3 minutes? 6 at max? If you really want the song, use the CD... it's only a few minutes, you have the song you want, the way you want, and still have the beautiful quartet the rest of the time.

Re: Song to walk down the aisle to?

OK- so I'm still on the fence with this one. Thanks for all your input. I guess I'll just wait to hear back from the quartet to see if they can do anything like it.

Any more opinions are still welcome!

Kelly

I'm using 'Canon in D' by Pachelbel.
