i was dead against doing to do ANY special dances at our wedding. my dad died a couple of years ago and it makes me so sad at other weddings. but at the last minute i have decided that i cant deny my FMIL that and didnt want to hurt my brother and stepfather so i decided to do it. Now I have NO clue what songs are appropriate. Any ideas??? I kind of want something not too sentimental bc i dont want to get upset

Re: Songs to Dance with Brother
I also have a issue with my brother, he is kinda 'special', that's what i call him anyway, cause i love him so much and i want the perfect song to dance with him at my wedding to let him know that he is beautiful inside and out no matter what his condition, i have been trying to find the perfect song even before i get engaged. i know my situation is kinda different than yours but in my searching if i find any, i will let you know.

Re: Songs to Dance with Brother
My dad is still alive but i don't speak to him and won't be at my wedding.
I decided to dance with my brother, but just to not make it a replacement for my father/daughter dance I am doing it right at the start of dinner (FH and FMIL will dance at the usual time).
I looked for songs for sooooo long that was perfect and have come up with 'In my Life' by the BEatles...if you really listen to the words to me its like all the places I have been and hte people i have met no one has even meant more to me then you.
I have also been to weddings where a bride and her brother danced to vanessa williams song 'oh how the years go by' and Did I ever tell you were m hero by bette
hope that helps...

Re: Songs to Dance with Brother
I know alot of people use it for mother or father but i do think that 'through the years' is special with brothers as well.

I was in the same situation as you, but I feel that I should to honor my dad. In honor of my dad's memory, my brother & I plan to dance to 'Unforgettable' by Nat King Cole.

Re: Songs to Dance with Brother
i'm in the same situation and iwas thinking the other day to perhaps dance to ' dance with my father' by vandross see my father has moderate to sever alzheimers and will not be attneding my wedding.... so i thought it would be a nice tribute to my father since me and my brother aren't tight. my father taught me how to dance.... so like the song says what i'd do to have one last dance with my father.....
see i get teary eyed just thinking about it so my FI says its not a good idea
what do you guys think?

'There you'll Be' by Faith Hill
When I think back on these times And the dreams we left behind I'll be glad 'cause I was blessed To get to have you in my life When I look back on these days I'll look and see your face You were right there for me
In my dreams I'll always see you soar above the sky In my heart there will always be a place for you For all my life I'll keep a part of you with me And everywhere I am, there you'll be
Well you showed me how to feel Feel the sky was in my reach And I always will remember all the strength you gave to me
Your love made me make it through Oh, I owe so much to you You were right there for me
In my dreams I'll always see you soar above the sky In my heart there will always be a place for you For all my life I'll keep a part of you with me And everywhere I am, there youll be
'Cause I always saw in you my light, my strength And I want to thank you now For all the ways you were right there for me You were right there for me For always

Re: Songs to Dance with Brother
Yep. I'm not into crying on the dance floor, either, so I picked a semi-upbeat song:
Side by Side
Oh, we ain't got a barrel of money Maybe we're ragged and funny But we travel along Singing a song Side by side...
Fi is dancing with his mom to 'You've Got a Friend' and I think that's a great choice!

Re: Songs to Dance with Brother
I had a dance with my brother, and then he danced with my mother. We all danced to 'oh how the year's go by' by Vanessa Williams.
2nd runners up were: -Dreams by Van Halen (a little hard to dance to though, but I like the lyrics) -My Life by the Beatles -To Sir, with Love by Lulu

Re: Songs to Dance with Brother
There's this really pretty song called 'Sister' by Nixon. The lyrics are great, but I'm not sure if it's too rock ballad-y for a wedding. I'm hoping by the time I get married someone will have done a slow remake of it
