Okay....my mom's youngest brother ( my uncle ) is married and his daughter is our flower girl. We asked her to be our flower girl back in May of 2006 and this past March his wife starts making a big stink that her mom( my uncles MIL) should get an invitation to the wedding since its her grandaughter that is the flower girl. We were like we are not inviting her to the wedding - there are people we want to invite that we can't because our guest list is already too big. So she was just like no, we just want an invite so they could come to the church, and we were like you don't need an invitation to come to the church, anyone is welcome to come. SO my uncle's MIL was like , ' well, Im not any Joe Schmo coming to the wedding, Im her grandmother.' So I told my uncle I would send an invite the witch just so she wouldn't give him a hard time. So now, we mailed out her invite, but not with the reception card or response card, just the main invitation. Today, my uncle's wife called me and was like how come my mother didn't get a full invite, blah blah blah. So I just said, well because it's just for the church. She starting yelling it me that it is poor etiquette to do what I did, and I just said to her, well I didn't really have to send her an invite to her in the first place. So she continued to yell at me and I ended up just hanging up on her....first of all it's not her wedding, and she's making a big deal out of nothing.
Have your girls ever heard of such a thing as a 'courtesy' invitation to send to people that are just invited to the church??

You are doing nothing wrong...your aunt sounds like a witch! They want FG's GM to see? Take a picture and send it to her!

We thought we were the only one going through this. Just put your foot down. You are doing a good job. We learnt from FH's SIL. We were too easy going and she got what she wanted. Not going to happen anymore. If you need anything FM me.

that is the literal definition of insanity. You are much nicer than I am because I wouldnt have even sent out the 'courtesy' invite to avoid this very problem (or having gma start crashing the reception)
Stand your ground, you are totally in the clear

we sent no courtesy invites. In fact we did not invite DH's SIL at all. It was a problem at first but once everyone realized we would have way more fun w/o her they got past it

This woman is complaining that it is poor etiquette to only send an invite to the church and not to the reception afterwards ?! How about poor etiquette to ASK for an invitation to a wedding ?
Some people just need to be clocked over the head until they get it.

NO I have NEVER sent an invite out of courtesy (nor have I heard of one being sent)... tell the PITA (your Aunt AND her mother) that to stay out of the planning of your wedding - if she wants to come to see 'her granddaughter' then come - but there's no need to cause all of this aggravation... MY GOD!!! Some people are just incredible...

Nothing wrong with what you did-poor etiquette is her telling you that the woman should be invited because she is your FG grandmother in the first place!!! She is not your immediate family nor is she secondary family...ignore her!
people have some nerve

Actually 2 friends of mine sent Church invites only to parents of their friends who they had known forever but didn't socialize with. I think that is the reason the reception card is on a separate paper. So you don't have to send both. Don't back down. This is your wedding no theirs. If it means it has to happen without a flower girl than maybe that is for the best.
