Soon to be Military Spouses

My fh is currently deployed in Iraq and wont be coming back until next October. He is a Captain in the Army and although I worry about him daily, I know he will be ok.
He and I both want to get married in the Church however, Im not sure how were are supposed to go to Pre-Cana when he isnt even coming back to the US until October. And then once he comes back to the US he wont be coming back to NY until a week before our wedding (he has to go back to where he is stationed). Did you girls have a problem with this? What did you do? What are you doing?

My FH is not overseas but he's stationed in NC. I told our priest that he won't be coming to NY till 2 weeks prior to our wedding and he was very understanding. He said that we can just meet up with him and talk a few days prior to the wedding. I'm sure that if you explain this to them, that they will be very accommodating. HTH!

Thanks for your response. I called my church and they are really giving me a hard time. This is the church that my parents, grandparents, brother, etc got married at. They say that he needs to be present. So discouraging, so now Im off to call another church. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Wow, that's horrible. You would think that they are accommodating since he is serving our country. I hope you find a church that's right for you and that will understand your situation. Good luck!

What about calling the Diocese? They might be more accommodating.

I honestly cannot believe how horrible they are being. They are requesting that my FH gets in touch with the Army Chaplin who then has to call the priest - all from Iraq! I just dont understand how they can be so insensitive to someone who is fighting for our country.

Looks like Ill be getting married at my venue.

I'm so sorry to hear that! If you really want to get married by the church, then you should definitely not give up looking for one that accommodates you. Sorry that you're going through this...it really isn't right.
