Sorbet or Pasta?

Sorbet or Pasta?

Hi Girls! At Villa, we get to choose between sorbet or the pasta course. FH and I are leaning towards the sorbet, but my mom (old school Italian) thinks we should do pasta. I'm on the fence because I don't want people to miss the pasta even though there will be plenty at the CH.

Thanks for your opinion

If there is Pasta at the cocktail hour, I'd say go for the sorbet in case people don't want cake.

We did the sorbet - there was soooooooooo much pasta from CH - that it just seemed really redundant to serve it again as one of the dinner courses. The guests loved it, not to mention it really helped cleanse the palate & got you ready to really enjoy the main course! HTH

I'm doing the sorbet at Villa! My reasoning is because there's going to be the two pastas at the CH, we *might* also be getting pastitio as a hot dish at CH (a Greek pasta dish), and our plated app is probably going to be the eggplant rollentini, so it's going to be a lot of pasta and heavy foods. Plus, FH's family eats like birds, and food waste is my BIGGEST pet peeve, so I can't stomach the idea of 100 people having a single penne and then pushing the plate away. It makes me nauseous to think of all the food that will probably be wasted that night...so while the sorbet probably won't make a big difference, I'd rather go less filling with that course so more people finish their plates.

My in-laws are very old school Italian as well. I voted pasta because there probably would have been an uproar if we did not have pasta as one of our dishes! We went to a family wedding where they did not have a pasta course and that was all anyone could complain about! If your family isn't like that then either one would be really good though! HTH!

P.S. you didn't go in for your menu planning meeting yet? You're pretty close! They told me I'd get a letter around now to make my appointment, which I haven't received yet, but if you haven't gone yet then I probably shouldn't hold my breath for it, huh?

LOL! I love your responses, thanks so much!!

I went to pick the menu this past Friday, 10/16. They called me about 2 weeks prior to that to schedule it. Since we were back and forth on this one, she said we can change it if we want.

I'm afraid of the pasta uproar!

I will probably do the sorbet though hee hee

You got to let me know how it goes! I was also told I HAD to do an actual favor and not a donation otherwise the older Italian people would cause a riot...

We have the same choice and will be opting for sorbet.

Even though FH comes from a tradional Italian family, he thinks all the pasta at the CH will suffice.

My reasoning is that I want people to dance and not be too weighed down
