Sorry, another tipping question!

My photographer owns her own business, so therefore she's directly making all the $ we're paying her. My FMIL says we don't have to tip her, since it's her business, she's making the full profit, not just a cut. One thing to note- she's driving almost 2 hours from where she lives to our wedding, although she is factoring in her travel time. Any opinions?

I def don't think you have to, but i am in the same situation and will prob tip as long as we felt he did a good job

we're paying for them at reception? . . . i don't think we need to tip if it is their own business. If they have assistants, you may . . .

I don't think it matters if they own their own business or not. They are charging you for the service, yes, but the tip is an extra thank you. It also not required-tips are only if you can and want to.

the problem that arises out of this is that the photographer might think, geez, they tipped my assistant and not me? and (s)he is in charge of your pictures...eek!!! in the end, i think we tipped everyone...even if they were the owners.

I tipped mine either $150 or $200 I forgot. I really liked her though and thought she did a fabulous job capturing the moment throughout the day...

Yeah, I really like mine too, maybe I'll do $100 or so. She won't have any assistants with her, it will just be her (we're having a small wedding, so she can cover it all). I'll have to play it by ear I guess, but I'm sure I'll love her and want to thank her appropriately. Thanks!
