My dog had arthritis and they gave him steroids that really helped him....you wouldn't have known he had it....he lived until 13 years old. It may be worth going to the vet.

One of my dogs had arthritis flair up in his back- same sort of thing- he can't jump up on the couch, looks uncomfortable alot. Anyway the vet gave him a cortizone shot and gave us a bunch of steroid pills. That helped tremendously. He is 7 years old. After he got the treatment he was much better.
