sort of wedding-related: does anyone use self-tanner?

i have a dilemma. i am PALE. and not in that beautiful, peaches and cream sort of way. i'm talking the yellow-green skin that only looks good after a few days of sun. but i refuse to bake cause i'm scared to death of melanoma and (gasp!) wrinkles.

so i'm thinking of starting to use self-tanner. i want to be tan-looking for the wedding so i thought i'd start experimenting now.

what brand do you use? how does it work? how often do you use it? what is your baseline skin coloring?

thanks!!

I don't use a self tanning, but some of my friends have gotten their tan airbrushed for their wedding and they were very happy with it. I think you do it a couple of days before the wedding.

i can't be in the sun because i had a melanoma soooooo i use neutrogena self tanning foam..the foam is best i think because the lotion is really thick..only problem is...it drips when it rains..you get all these drop marks on your arms and stuff and you look dirty actually..so therefore not sure if its the best stuff but i like it because you don't get all yellow or orange and you don't streak because the foam is easier to apply..JUST Don't wear it in the rain..

i'm actually going to get airbrushed a few months before the wedding just to see how it works

For the wedding you can try airbrushing but be careful -- I am told it can make you look muddy in pics. I am really pale too Alex. What I do is get home tanner, exfoliate and then apply with a foam brush -- you know the kind you get at a hardware store to stain furniture. Sounds nuts, but works really well.

what brand do you use, deb? i've heard neutrogena is good and relatively inexpensive. but i was in sephora the other day and got intimidated by all of the very pricey self-tanners. i think i'm just terrified of putting anything on my face.

i agree that foam is the way to go.

i use one from Bath and Body works (it's in a blue and white bottle) - only 10 bucks and I always get compliments the next day that I am 'glowing.'

but if you happen to have been in the rain, how do you get rid of the drippy marks?

Hmmm...come to think of it, I washed my hands once after using it, and got some drop marks on my arm - it did look dirty. doesn't that happen with all self tanners the same day you use them??

i think they key is that you use it on a day off, a day where you are just running errands or whatever, and then shower off the layer of stuff and look glowy the next day. Thats how I see it!

Endless Summer foam is really great and not to expensive ($11) but it takes alot of practice. Hollywood tans has a 6 second tan that sprays you with the tanner and that worked great when i did it. it is a little pricey though (i think $25). i would try them both out. the 6 sec tan is nice because it is soo even and it lasts about a week. I am PALE irish so any color i can get is an improvement

AHHHHHH -- so funny!
Try a tinted moiturizer on your face first -- great way to test the waters. THe two best brands -- one is cheaper --called Endless Summer by Coppertone and the more expensive one is by Guerlain. Both work fine.
