So I have a mini sound-off and I don't know where else to turn to but HERE!!!
We JUST booked our RH last week for a June 30, 2012 wedding. I quickly designed awesome STD's, had them rush printed and delivered and I am working during all my free hours to get our list settled. I am just about ready to go and get the STD's stamped, sealed and dropped off over the weekend. As a courtesy, I send the word doc with the address labels to my FMIL of my FH's family and family friends - mostly to make sure I got the names all spelled correctly.
She wrote me back with a few changes - but this one is irking me to no end! She said that I should not address couples with both the husband and wife's name - just the husband.
For example: Mr. and Mrs. John and Jane Doe
She prefers: Mr. and Mrs. John Doe
I know it's small and stupid, but in a lot of cases for MY friends, the female is the actual 'friend' that is being invited, and she happens to be married. Her name should be on the STD/invite. Regardless, I still feel the woman's name should be on there. I admit I am a tiny bit of a feminist..so this rant might fall on deaf ears, but I had to get it off my chest!

Re: Sound Off
I agree with what you said and it is you wedding so you can address your STDs how you want....but just to appease FMIL, maybe address the STDs going to his side the way she prefers. Is she ever going to see them addressed?

Re: Sound Off
I totally put both names on it. There was only one invite that my mom told me to do it with just the husbands name because he is old fashioned.

Re: Sound Off
FMIL and I had the same disagreement, we compromised that I could do it my way for the STD's and I would do it her way for the invitations.

Re: Sound Off
I am doing mine the way you FMIL likes them. However, if you want them addresed your way, go for it. If it would cause that much trouble with her, you might just want to address hers the way she wants.

Re: Sound Off
I used my name after his in everything. It is your life WHO CARES. I changed my last name for his family, they can allow me to use my first whenever I want!

Re: Sound Off
I don't think it matters how the STD's are addressed but for the invitations - just the husband's name is proper.

Re: Sound Off
My compromise is that I am doing it the old fashioned way for all the 'adults' - family members and family friends. But for our friends, we are going to do it however we want. :)

I am doing mine your FMIL way for those I know are married. But if they are not I would put both...either way you are the one doing all the work, so do it the way you want!!!!
