I don't know how it works, i think you have to buy the book, but a woman I work with has been on it since the begining of Feb and has lost 25 pounds!

yes - it's a 'healthier version' of atkins...

it works. you can lose 8-12 pounds in the first 2 weeks (which is the hardest)!

There is a chat room that could help you understand it. Go on Prevention.com and then put a search in for SBD. Then go into where it says chat. It also has info explaining it. It is a good diet.

My fiance lost 40 lbs on South Beach. It's a great diet but I think it works better on men. I actually ate more on the diet than I did when I wasn't dieting.

It isa great diet. My PCP who is a cardiologist knows the doctor who wrote it. She said it was a great diet. I lost t weight on it, and I am not a good dieter. The trick is so stick with it- or at least the basic principles.

I just bought the book last week. Been reading it, not doing the diet just yet. It is very similar to the Atkins diet, but it incorporates more fruit and veggies into the diet. Where Akins didn't allow fruit. For the first 2 weeks it is pretty strick on what you are allowed to eat. It focuses on high protien, low carb. Then as the weeks go by, you introduce new foods. I am excited to be starting it soon.

I bought the book, but can't do it. I'm doing weight watchers, and have been doing what I want. I'm back down to a size 6

Re: South beach diet

it ABSOLUTELY WORKS - I SWEAR by it !
If you can get throught the first 2 weeks - you're home free !!
The 1st 2 weeks are NO Carbs, NO sugar and NO fruit- But unlike Atkins you can eat vegetahles......
after the first 2 weeks you begin to put the carbs back into your diet- ie: oatmeal and whole wheat bread.........
it works - and you don't feel like you're deprived. - (well, the first 2 weeks are pretty rough...........i'll be honest -)

Re: South beach diet

I just started it on Wednesday, & so far, it's going great!!! It's now Sunday, & I lost 3 lbs.!!!
I've never actually tried a 'diet', I mostly just try & watch what I eat, but w/ many social events coming up (I'd like to lose about 10 lbs.) I decided to do something that's a bit more strict.
The first few days SUCK , but you start to lose the carb/sugar cravings day by day & it's gets a little easier.
Getting on the scale & seeing the good results really makes you want to stick with it!

Here's a link to the SBD message boards...TONS of info on this site. I like the program...and lost about 7lbs in the first 2 weeks. But my favorite is still Weight Watchers. So, now I'm pretty much combining SBD and WW. Better carb choices (whole wheat bread, brown rice, etc.) and counting my points.

I think its great! My FFIL lost 25 lbs, and I've been following it (cheating a bit though) for the past 2 weeks and I lost about 8 lbs. It left me a bit cranky and tired at first but its better now and resisting the cereal and bread I lived on has gotten easier too. I definately think its worth a try!

Re: South beach diet

Hi I bought the book and said omg this diet is hard to do what is this I have to make stuff and his diet stuff BUT I went on the website for the south beach diet and printed a 7 day diet regimen from the south beach diet that is VERY different from the book- its from the south beach diet and all of the same concepts- I lost 10 lbs in the first 2 weeks and dropped a size and a half in the first 2 weeks got back into a 12 loose but my goal is to get back to a 6, Im still on it I bought the south beach diet cookbook it is AWESOME!!! still cooking phase 1 dinners, yes the first day is hard but after the 3rd day no problem and this is coming from someone who didnt eat breakfast who had a bagel or pizza for lunch drank 0 water and for dinner ha super size me and then watching tv had to have chocolate and chips- yup I was pathetic. Now I dont crave them at all its weird and Ive tried WW oh and I did 0 excersising. At thanksgiving when I walked in everyone said omg you lost so much weight, I was really happy that it wants me to real my goal even faster so I will begin to exercise. GO FOR IT its the BEST!!!!

I heard recently that a lot of women on this diet are losing their hair because they are not getting certain nutrients the body needs! Just be carefull!! Maybe do some research...

Re: South beach diet

Tried it and couldn't stick to it. I also tried atkins and it worked. I broke down and ordered no carb cheese cake and bread while on Atkins since I craved bread so bad. Funny thing is I have only purchased bread twice in about 7 years for the house. I am not a bread or cheesecake person until I know I can't have it.

I lasted on Atkins for over a month but gave up when I just had to have an apple. I LOVE fruit and veggies so Atkins was really hard for me. I gave up on all diets though and just work out (with weights too) and eat what I want whenever I want.

A good friend was doing SBD this year but I'm not sure how long it lasted for her. She is not doing it now though. A former friend also swears by the Beverly Hills diet (lots of fruit in the first couple of weeks).

FYI - Cutting out all carbs a la Atkins can be dangerous. You body needs to know how to digest carbs. Once you introduce carbs after a long period on Atkins it could make you sick.

My mom is a diabetic (just found out about 2 months ago) and I'm convinced that it is from all those yo yo diets she has been on for years where she stopped eating certain foods - including carbs.
