South Beach really works

South Beach really works

For any of you ladies who are looking to lose a few pounds, quickly, I just wanted to say how well South Beach has been working for me. FH and I started on Friday and I'm already down 10 lbs, he's down 9 (I think it helps when you're not the only one doing it). This is pretty great since I was worried that it wouldn't work as well because I'd already been eating somewhat low carb. Just figured I'd pass on my 'South Beach review'

I'm so glad you found success with it!!! What a great feeling it must be to lose 10 pounds!!!!!
Now, I have a question for you about it....do you think you could follow it for an extended period of time, or do you think it's a way to lose the weight and then try to maintain afterwards?
The reason I ask is because my father lost about 80 pounds on a low-carb diet and he's kept it of for almost 5 years now....but he still follows the program....not to the letter, but pretty much. I tried the same program, and after a year (and losing 30 pounds) I got so bored with eating those same kinds of foods that I quit. I'm starting to put more weight back on (since the wedding, which i hear is normal, i hope ) and i'm trying to figure out a way to get rid of it....
Thanks!!!

I lost 25 pounds on it...and gained 20 back within a year. It really is a lifestyle change. I don't think you have to eat low/no carb forever, and I know people who eat pasta and breads sporradically and maintain the lost weight...but for me, once I start going back to carbs, I go back full force. It's a mental shift in understanding what carbs do in your body, and I plan to do the diet again before the wedding. I know that my post wedding weight will definitly skyrocket once pancakes and pasta come back into my life though!

Just remember, when the induction is over, it's over! I know people who are so excited by the weight loss, they have stayed on induction for months (ew-no more meat!) and become sick. My sister is a doctor and says there are countless caese of girls coming in very ill from eating only protein. CArbs in excess are bad, but we still need carbs to live!

Congratulations on the loss...doesn't it feel amazing!

Yeah, it does work. I did Atkins for 2.5 years and that was amazing too. I agree about the induction, yoiu have to get off of it or it can be dangerous.

Thats great to hear!!! I have heard so many who have done the diet have gotten such great results. Unfortunately, I couldn't stick with the diet for more than a week.

It is definitely a lifestyle change. My FH lost 35 lbs and I lost 15 a year ago (we also did it together). But we never went back to eating major amounts of carbs. We still don't have bread, cookies, chips, rice or pasta in our house. Every once in a while we'll splurge when we go out, but otherwise we still monitor our carbs and eat a lot of veggies, fish, lean meat and chicken. Congrats on your weight loss - keep up the good work!

I think I could definitely eat this way for an extended period. The good thing is that induction is only 2 weeks and it's not no carb, it's just eating the good carbs. Like, we can have hummus even during the induction (I love hummus). Even if I didn't have hummus, it's still good because none of the food is awful. After the first 2 weeks, you do Phase 2 where you gradually reintroduce carbs. If you notice that you aren't losing weight anymore, you know that you've reintroduced too many carbs. Once you finally reach your goal weight, you move to Phase 3 (maintenance). There aren't any restrictions on Phase 3, but you should just keep in mind the principles behind South Beach when choosing what to eat. So, have bread, but have whole grain bread instead. That kind of thing. Let me know ifyou have any other questions

I'm excited to hear this...I've failed at EVERYTHING else this year....So I just won the Diet book and cook book on E-bay for $8.00 each and soon enough, I hope to post a weight loss!

It was developed by a cardiologist in Florida as a way to help his patients with heart problems but he found that they were also losing a lot of weight. It's divided into 3 phases. Phase 1 is 2 weeks and you're very limited in what you can eat, but honestly, I haven't felt like I'm missing out (well, except when I was in Penn Station and people on either side of me were eating pizza ). Mostly, you're eating salads, chicken, fish, meat, eggs or egg substitutes, and low fat cheese. Also, no diet soda which has been the most difficult part for me. Phase 2 lasts until you reach your goal weight. This is where you gradually start to reintroduce certain carbs, like fruit and alcohol, back into your diet. Phase 3 is the maintenance phase and, as I mentioned above, there aren't really any restrictions on what you can eat.

I actually typed up the menu for the first few days. Let me know if you'd like me to email it to you.
