So...what would you do re: rehearsal dinner?

So...what would you do re: rehearsal dinner?

Our rehearsal at the church is booked for 7:30. My mom and sister, who are putting together the dinner, feel that having dinner afterwards is way too late. They feel dinner should come before it. They're also concerned about their 'prep' time - getting everything ready. Whether it's catered or we do the grilling bbq stuff....

I'm bummed because I wanted everyone to have a good time after the fact- this way everyone can have a drink and all that...pre-rehearsal you wouldn't be able to.

If they came to dinner before, then went to rehearsal, would they come back just to have some drinks and a good time?

OR should I just talk my mom and sister into doing the dinner after the rehearsal? They just seem so against it...they figure we wouldn't eat til 8:30/9 if we're lucky. And they're concerned cuz the wedding is the next day.

So...what would you do? TIA!

Tara, I think it should be fine to have dinner at 8:30pm or 9pm, but I personally would not be too happy with that the night before my wedding... I'm still trying to see if I can change my night-before-rehearsal to TWO nights before.

I would vote for having dinner before, going to the rehearsal, then coming back for drinks etc. I think that's the best of both worlds since your mom and sis are concerned about prep time and cleaning etc.

Yesenia, you're the best! Of course, as always, I'm having trouble making a stupid decision. I was just curious what other brides would prefer in this situation....it's so frustrating! I wish it was just simple!!!

I think that will be fine -

I am doing a luncheon at 1 pm and my rehearsal at 4pm. I am doing everything early because my wedding is the next morning at 10:30 - My hairdresser is starting on our hair after the rehearsal.

I am with ya. I would prefer the dinner to be after the rehearsal as well. But I can understand your Mom and sister's stress about prep time. Is it possible that you could have the rehearsal a bit earlier? Maybe 6:30 or 7pm? This may make your Mom feel better that you would not be eating so late. My rehearsal is at 7pm with the RD at 8pm, and it is for 3 hours at a restaurant. Is there a way to move it up a little?

Oh, trust me, I CANNOT make the simplest of decisions these days!!! I swear it's like, oh do you want a square tag or circle tag? Ummm, I don't know. Ok, so do you want it in blue or in brown? ummmmm, can't decide. And it goes on and on like that for me!

Even for my own RD, I still can't decide if I should switch it to earlier on Wednesday (2 days before) or leave it for the night before (which I originally didn't want). Ugh, I'm tired of making decisions,

In your case though, it's not a matter of choosing between two days, just times. Seems like the earlier dinner and drinks after gives you the best of both worlds.

I think since you are having the rehearsal the night before the wedding then you should have the dinner before. My RD was two days before and we were up until 11pm and I didn't get to sleep until 2am bc I was doing stuff to get ready. I would try to change it to a different day if I were you. I am strongly suggesting that. You are going to have so much to do that you don't even realize it now. You should be in bed early so that you are well rested for the day of. Plus you don't want anyone hung over for pics. I think if you move it up a night or two you may find that you will have a much better time at the RD.

Tough decision. Good luck. I know all these things are so hard to think through when you have a million things on your mind.

our rehearsal only took about 30 minutes. You totally have time to do dinner afterwards!

It's your rehearsal dinner - do what YOU want! If you want to party hardy after...then rock on! Don't worry about what others want to do..unless you're concerned that the time would effect people coming...then have it after.

I think you will be fine having after, it won't take that long.

I don't think it's super late, so you should be able to do it afterwards. The question is how much are your mom and sister against it. Is this a small thing, or a they'll be really pissed thing. I try to do the planning from that kind of perspective. I realize that sometimes means things aren't exactly the way I want, but some folks care about some things more than others.

that said, i'm a late night person, and think dinner at 8:30 is not a big deal at all.

I think if you have it afterwards it will be ok, not too late.
