They were reentering the atmosphere. No one really knows what happens.

Re: Space Shuttle
From what I gathered-they were 200,000 feet in the air above Texas and they were scheduled to land in Florida only 16 minutes later.....and then something happened and they lost contact and then a big explosion over Dallas was reported!

Re: Space Shuttle
My hubby called and woke me up to tell me to see what was happening with the Space Shuttle Columbia. I can't believe it happened again.
I was sitting in my 8th grade computer class, learing to type on an Apple IIe, watching it on TV in school, when the Space Shuttle Challenger blew up. It's funny how we remember where we were when sadness strikes.

Re: Space Shuttle
I was also just thinking about the time when I heard about the Challenger explosion in 1986 (sitting in my 9th grade social studies class and the principal announcing this tragedy over the loudspeaker). I'm just so sad and shocked to hear about this.

This is so sad I really didn't think that I'd experience something like this twice in my lifetime.

Re: Space Shuttle
President Bush just quoted from the Book of Isaiah in remembering the astronauts in his press conference. Something about 'Turn you eyes heavenward to the starry hosts....' I was very touched. THis is truly so sad.
