I decided to plan my own shower...So i asked my uncle if i can use his apartment clubhouse but it is $75 to rent which is not bad but to save money i would rather have it at a restaurant that way the ladies can pay for the own meal...is that considered tacky or should i just rent a hall?
whoever had showers at a restaurant did the women pay for their own meals?

Before everyone jumps all over your post.... I think everyone should know that you are NOT from NY and things may be handled a bit differently where she lives... (sry, the name of the state escapes me at the moment)
ETA: Is this type of thing done where you live? It is common? Just asking bc I know for a fact that would be unheard here, but then again, anything NY wedding-related tends to be a bit redic!
ETA: Have you considered maybe having a pot-luck kind of shower? Where everyone bring a dish of their favorite whatever. That may be a nice idea

Good save Gina!
Well, honestly, I think if the bridal party is not planning it, your Mom should do it! Or even a Sister if you have one. Someone close to you. I think that being that you are the bride, you should have a shower planned for you!

Re: Speaking of bridal showers
I've never been to a shower (bridal, baby, any) where I had to pay for my own food. I personally would not want to do that to people. Even if you just do a light brunch somewhere or maybe you can rent a place (or have it at someone's house) and ask people to bring a dish, i think that's better than asking people to pay.

What if you did the shower at the club house and made the food yourself (maybe with the help of some friends). Keep it simple - have tea sandwiches and hor d'oeuvres and a champagne punch? I've been to a few OOT showers and it was more of an afternoon tea.

I think having it at the club house is a good idea and maybe you can have either a local deli cater it so it wouldn't be too expensive or the pot luck idea might work.
All of my family is not from NY and have been to plenty of showers where it was not a full out catered affair like here in NY. I say do whatever it in your budget.

Re: Speaking of bridal showers
How are you doing it? Is it going to be like a get together, a full blown party, or like a bachlorette-shower combo.... What are is your vision
Just asking so that I can best help you!
I also dont like the idea of going to a shower or a party thrown by someone and having to pay for my own food. If its just a get to together where everyone is just meeting up then I would understand paying for my own food.
Has your mom or MOH offered to throw one for you. WHat made you decide to do it yourself.

I like the pot luck idea better, you can put a cute poem on the invitation so everyone brings something and you could be in charge of drinks and desserts. Or I agree with making a few appetizers and drinks, it could be more of an informal get together.
Hope that helps

Re: Speaking of bridal showers
Most of us (hopefully) know that you are out of state. So we are wondering if this is common where you live?
Most fo the time your BM's or Mom or MOH will throw the shower. But if it is not practiced that way or its impossible i think its totally fine to do your own shower. However, since the shower is about buying the bride & groom gifts to start their new life & home together, i dont think it would be right to ask them to pay for their meal as well. Unless you just want to do a get together & gifts are optional then that would be fine. Is there anyway you could have it at a house & you can order in food with the $75.00 you save on the clubhouse???

Actually in many areas, MD where I am from, it is considered extremely inappropriate for your mom to host the shower. It is supposed to be done by bridesmaids, so that the mom is not asking for more gifts for her daughter. http://www.bridalshower.com/planning/whohosts.html I think the best way to have this is have it at a house, and ask your bridesmaids to each make a dish.

I like the idea of a potluck, just have all the girls bring something, have it at your house or someplace cozy, chill out and have fun. Let me know how it goes!!

Re: Speaking of bridal showers
I would rent the clubhouse and do the potluck idea that seems fun and you can have everyone give their receipe like a keepsake or something. If you want to do just fingerfoods that maybe cost effective too. You can go to Costco or BJ's and buy the ready made finger foods etc... Good Luck.
