My dress came in back in November 2003. I had bought it in August. They said I would have to pay the remainder of the bill when I had my first fitting. Fine, no problem.
So I got a call yesterday to call them up for an appt. I was very excited. I am also way too busy to take a day off work since I’m saving them for the honeymoon. So I didn’t think twice, I called up and said this weekend was out but how about next weekend?
The lady was honestly shocked. “We don’t do fittings on weekends”. I immediately told her I could not take a whole day off to come out to Long Island, as I work in the city, just for a fitting. To her credit she quickly recovered “Let me check something”. She came back and said they would have someone available for me. I’m scheduled for next weekend at noon.
What’s wrong with weekends? Why wouldn’t you do fittings on weekends? Anyone else have this happen?
(BTW) Jim is putting the balance on his card. LOL So he’s coming in, paying the tab and walking out. God I love that man!

Re: Speaking of Dress fittings.. why not a weekend?
as far as fittings go, apparently, the bridal salons think that we, as brides, can take any day off work and drop everything and go for our fittings. i think its complete bogus that have to take time off work to go for an hour/hour and a half dress fitting. i do not have a dress yet; my wedding is a bit too far off. but, i feel like when i am ready to go, i will definetly try for a weekend because that is the most convenient for me.

The place where I've brought my gown had the same policy, but they did not tell that until after I've ordered the dress. They said the weekends are just for purchasing dresses. They were not willing to work with me;therefore, I took my dress elsewhere for the alterations. I was able to go with my mom, sister and sister in law on 5-31-04. Yes Memorial Day they were open. I tried on the dress to make sure they ordered the right size and correct dress and then I left w/ dress in hand. Never ever looking back of course. My seamstress is great and I love her to death. She does excellent work.

Well Im at Macy's Bridal in Manhasset.
I love the seamstress there already!
They weren’t rude about it and they didn’t try too hard to push me. Frankly if they had, I have Fay’s home phone I would have just fitted myself at her house on a weekend evening.
I don’t understand why anyone thinks that brides can take a day off for ANYTHING!!! I have to save EVERY single vacation day, personal day and floating holidays just to have enough for the wedding and the honeymoon.
Bah!

Re: Speaking of Dress fittings.. why not a weekend?
thats just plain dumb. what are we supposted to do - drop everything and go get a dress fitting!! just a little annoyance that we don't need when we are planning a wedding and really don't have time for everything. lord knows we need to work and can't risk losing a job over our wedding dress. best of luck to do and i'm sure it will work out fine.

Yikes! I am glad that they will be able to get you in. And I'm glad to know this, just in case. I won't really be in a position to take days off for fittings either. It'll be a pain if it has to be done like that, especially since I bought my dress out in Nassau (near my parent's) but I live in Queens.

I think it's because they want to concentrate on sales on the weekends and they may not want or have a seamstress available 7 days a week.
It was really annoying, but I just scheduled late appointments for my fittings.

My salon has late nights and does Saturday fittings- Blanchees. I live and work in the city, and thankfully- haven't had to take a day off to do a thing!

Re: Speaking of Dress fittings.. why not a weekend?
I think they get a lot of new brides lookignto try on on the weekends, so they need teh fittign rooms for them. The seamstreses aren't usually involved inthat, except when you are ready to order they measure you.
so maybe they only have 1 there for those purposes & were able to make an exception for you.
My fitting is on a Thursday night. The Bridal Garden is open late on Thursday's so I will go straight there after work ( it's around the corner from the Bethpage LIRR station, so I can make it by 7.)

I am experiencing the same problem too! No one told me that you couldn't fit or try on during the weekend and it makes it very inconvenient for my BMs so I decided to pick up everyones dress and we will find a seamstress. It works out for me b/c I usually have days off during the week b/c i work on Saturdays- but I am really annoyed with the bridal shop right now! I just hope that they ordered the right sizes b/c they won't even allow you to try on!

My bridal salon only does fittings 1 sat morning a month. I guess its for OOT people. They also do 1-2 late nights a week.
