I have something like this and im not crazy about their wood laminate. Its like they put a sticker that looks like wood grain over MDF.
Its not bad, just doesnt look like real wood when you get close.

is that the 'billy' bookcase?
thats the one we have. its packed with very heavy books/textbooks & still standing. also survived two moves. seems to be sturdy. unlike our bedroom furniture unfortunately. i agree with stef, it doesn't look like real wood, but in the birch color its pretty.
i think it would look nice. especially with the glass doors.

I'm sorry to be discouraging but I have had nothing but bad luck w/ IKEA. It's not real wood in my opinion. Like Stef said, it's like a sticker. My sister's Bedroom is from there and it is FALLING APART!!!! not good quality

Eeeek! We are moving Thursday and now I hope our Billy bookcases survive. After a down payment, closing costs, new carpet, paint, painters, movers..... we cant afford anything new.
I'll keep my fingers crossed
ETA: If you like Ikea stuff, I think you will like it. We have the glass doors and the Benno CD holders and it looks very nice.

We have billy bookcases and we just moved and they made it. The movers wrapped them and they are fine. Not one chip.
Ikea can be questionable. I stay away from anything there that is up on stilts and that I plan to put heavy things on.
All the things I have from Ikea are functioning well. I have billy bookcases and a computer desk
