Speaking of Michael Jackson, my mother had a request....
My mother asked both my sister and I to ask our DJs to not play any Michael Jackson songs at our weddings because she does not want a child molester's music playing. I thought it was a very strange request from my mother. Especially because she's usually a 'whatever' kind of person. Do you think that this is taking it 'too far'?

Well maybe Jackson 5 stuff, he wasn't a child molester as a child himself (or he might've been, who knows?).
Oh bother. I don't know. I am not such a huge fan that this would bother me either way. But unless you're a member of the Jackson Fan Club, I don't see why it would bother anyone to not hear it. The guests probably wouldn't notice either way.
The only Jackson songs I'd really expect are ABC, I want you back, things like that. There's just so much music out there. It wouldn't be missed.

I wouldn't play any just because I hate him & his music. But I can understand where she's coming from. We were recently at a Christening party with a DJ and he played some MJ song while doing musical chairs or the hula hoop contest and I know I made a comment to DH

no....it's weird now and a shame....i LOVED his music and thought he was highly talented, but now if i hear any of his songs i feel like i am doing something bad....i saw his video recently for Thriller and I thought what a shame...his talent was just so huge.

I said the same thing for my wedding. He makes me ill and I didn;t want any of his songs played at my wedding even though I did like his music back in 1980

From a mom's point of view: I would agree. Why promote his music?
I know that I'm showing my age right now, but when I was a young girl, we never had to worry about this kind of trash in the news. Though, I'm sure it was there but not publisized as it is now. I do know that while my daughter was growing up I had gotten more and more frightened for her safety.
I would have to agree with Mom's request. I would take it offense to hear his music at a wedding, nevertheless at my own daughters. On a sad note, he is very talented and the only sad thing about this entire drama is that it will be taken away. He created his own life and now has to deal with his actions.

This actually crossed my mind!!! But I know FH likes ABC and some of the older songs. Those are fine with me but anything solo by him kinda skeeves me out now.

I don't think it is going too far. My wedding was only 4 months ago and I didn't ban MJ. Now, though, with all the attention in the media, I find myself changing the radio station when I hear an MJ song. It just gives me the heebie jeebies when I hear it. I can't explain it, but if I were getting married in the next few months, I would ban him from the list too.

Well, it's not like he is at the top of the charts right now with millions of hit songs... I think that if the DJ didnt play him at the wedding, no one would notice really.

Well, I don't like Michael Jackson anyway, but I just thought it was out-of-the-blue that she asked me, and I was just curious what everyone else thought.
