Speaking of pots/pans...what do you think of

Rachael Ray cookware sets. Ive heard only really good things about it. Does anyone have any of her items? My two sisters have the 10 piece cookware set and rave about it, so Im thinking maybe I should register for that. Also heard her knife set is great. Apparently, really good quality for the price, but wanted to see what you guys thought as well.

BTW- suggestions for other pieces not included in these types of sets that i should remember? TIA!

I dont know DDDDD!ck about pots & pans So I asked my SIL what to get... So I registered for a 10pc. All Clad set... She's had hers since HER shower which was 15 years ago and they still are like new.. its an AMAZING set.. So thats what I went with.. AND i got a free grille pan as a bonus! score!

And I also registered for a lasagna pan & a 12qt pot bc they obviously dont come in a standard set. You definatly need these 2 paesan!

I did a huge amount of research on pots and pans a few months ago. I don't know if registering for a whole set is the best way to go since it could be a single large purchase for one person to buy, but that may be a good thing. I'm going to William Sonoma this weekend to look at different pots and pans with my FW to pick a set. I know they said that they allow people to buy just a few of the pots/pans in a set and then later after you're married go back with what was bought off your registry and they will let you upgrade to the whole set for a good deal. I'll give more details once we're done this weekend.

The set you're looking at is a very nice set and is reasonably priced. I don't know much about the knives though.

I do really like the all-clad pots and pans as well, thats what we're going to look at this weekend!

foodie here. I know more about pots than I likely should admit. I've posted longwinded threads before, but I'll keep this one brief.....

If you want pots that will last forever and don't mind spending a bit more $$$, get:

classic allclad pots (without any teflon)

a couple inexpensive cast iron skillets (for searing steaks, burgers.... once 'seasoned', it's a better nonstick surface than any teflon, without nasty chemicals

le creuset castiron casserole pots (for noodle casseroles and stews/braised meat

what's wrong with anodized aluminum?
stains / scratches, so it looks worn quickly
always teflon-wears off (into your food!) so the pots don't last beyond about 7 years
reactive metal - your tomato sauce will taste like a can

bene's of anodized aluminum:
only one: it distributes heat about as well as allclad and is a little cheaper

hope this helps!

My mom who is a master at cooking bought the rachel Ray set and her knife set and loves it. She said she will never by another ever.

i really love the all clad cookware---but DH and i just can NOT afford it. its rather expensive, and i know that its a good investment in the long run, but we just simply can't do it.

i do have some cast iron skillets already....what do you recommend that i the next thing besides all clad?

Re: Speaking of pots/pans...what do you think of

If you cannot afford all clad (I admit, it's definitely an investment), go for a good aluminum or copper disk bottom stainless steel set. Avoid the teflon, though... Stick with the cast iron skillet for frying...

I'm a thrifty shopper and think thar you may be able to get the le creuset and all clad at a discount somewhere (such as ebay)... I've done it before, and got stuff at 40% off... but I know that doesn't help you with a registry...

I'd recommend just getting 1 or at most, 2 le creuset dutch ovens (about 5 qt). that's all you really would need. You can supplement with one short 'buffet casserole' which looks like a frying pan with a heavy lid... but it's not essential. You only need a 7 qt or 9 qt if you intend to become ground zero for huge family get togethers.... So, you hardly need to invest in a whole set.
hope this helps!

get what you think is pretty! Don't cave into pressure... becuase you'll be using them for decades... I have no frills black plastic untensils supplemented with gorgeous brushed stainless steel can opener, pizza wheel, and other minor gadgets... I got these cute matching brushed stainless steel containers for them (and matching dish rack) at all places.... IKEA... gotta love that store!
