I don't know about you...But eating cereal for breakfast and lunch every day for two weeks seems icky to me...And what do you do after the two weeks is up? Magically keep the weight off that they claim you will lose???

I really don't have a problem maintaining the weight, its losing it that's a problem.

So are you saying that you think you could maintain if you were able to at least get rid of the initial 5-6 pounds?

I was just wondering how one can go back to eating normal and also keep the weight off if they lost the weight by eating only cereal in the first place.

Note: This may be coming out harsh...But it's not meant to! I'm also just very curious about weight loss and eating right!

Well I only need to lose about 5-6 pounds to begin with & once I do, I can easily keep it off by eating normally - if I stuff myself at every meal - of course I'll put it back on, but I plan to have a well balanced diet after the 2 weeks are over.

Yes!! And it totally works! I don't remember exactly how much I lost though, but I was also working out so that I'm sure made a difference.

For me, I love cereal so I didn't mind it at all. When I got sick of cereal for lunch I just had a small serving of fruit/fruit salad and that was fine.

You don't keep eating cereal for both meals but you learn how full (better yet, how little you actually need to eat to feel satisfied) by doing this diet. Then, you can modify your portions for breakfast and lunch accordingly and change your eating style. You don't go back to 'eating normal' or you'll surely gain all the weight back.

I see...But then what's the point of eating the cereal for two weeks? Why not just modify if you're going to modify?

honestly, i think if you ate any kind of cereal every day 2x a day, you would lose weight.

Their idea of a serving size is not what you would normally pour into your bowl!

Thanks so much! I've heard about the diet, but didn't know anyone who's tried it. I also don't mind cereal & although I probably will get bored of it after 2 weeks - I'm sure I'll be able to stick to it.

Probably if you ate two bags of chips too, actually (and nothing else until dinner). It's all about portion control. Guess that's what Special K is trying to convey.

My view on this is in order to lose weight - you obviously have to cut down on what you eat & if you do it the way most dieticians recommend, you'll only lose about a pound a week.
That does not motivate me (nor most Americans, being that studies have been done and say that most who start a diet quit after a few day because of the lack of motivation)! so on a regular diet - not only will I not be satisfied with what I would be eating, but I also wouldn't see any immediate results. If you go on a diet like this however - that is only 2 weeks, of course you probably won't be satisfied with what you eat, but you'll see immediate results.

I agree with this, anything with minimal calories would work, but this is a diet that has a very easy to follow eating plan.

You are absolutely right. But sometimes my brain (that loves to make me overeat) needs some kind of regimen to follow before I can train myself to control my portion sizes. Since I was just coming off Atkins, cereal was like a dream to me. It felt like I was cheating everyday so that kinda helped.

It's very true that you can probably eat *almost* any kind of cereal for 2 weeks and lose weight. You have to watch out though... alot of cereals that seem healthy have lots of calories and even some fat (in addition to the milk if you don't use skim). So no, not ANY cereal. Special is very low in calories comparatively speaking. I highly doubt potato chips would work... even the small bags are like 300 calories.

Plus there's protein in the milk and the complex carbs in the cereal help you feel full longer and that's part of the point.

I brought pre-served portions to work so I couldn't over eat. It worked for me because it help me learn portion control... I wouldn't say that this would work for everyone, but it did for me.

I did it right before I ended up with tonsilitis and got my tonsils removed.....I lost a bunch of weight, probably from the jump start of the Special K and then not being able to eat anything.

What I did was had it for breakfast, a good sized and healthy lunch and then ate another bowl for dinner. You are allowed to have whatever to drink and healthy snacks

I totally hear you on the portion control problems! I love to finish whats on my plate! (The trick is, just putting the right amount on your plate! Or even better--just cooking the right amount so there's no temptation!!!) I also bring portioned bowls of cereal with me to work. It's definitely beneficial--as well as economical.
