'special' shoes (any nurses or other brides in the medical field?)
Prior to my sister's wedding I posted about my mother's special shoe needs... well, she was in horrible pain at the wedding. She was wearing aerosoles - a simple pump, but she was in agony.
Regardless of price, anyone know where or what brand may make shoes that look pretty but are more for people who have disabilities? I was thinking of taking her to Peter Fox shoes in Manhattan - MOH said that she got her wedding shoes there and they were the most comfortable ever. If they are comfortable and she likes them I want to help pay for the shoes she wears to my wedding, plus I want them to be something she will wear again. She limps from a stroke she had. Anyone know of anything that could help? I was thinking of taking her to my Podiatrist, but I know he will tell her to wear something she won't feel good in. My mom hates feeling like she 'CAN'T' wear shoes like 'normal' people. Those are HER words, not mine. I want her to be as comfortable as possible at my wedding next year... any ideas? I was also thinking of like a place that sells Durable Medical Equipment and seeing if they sell anything. It's sad this kind of thing is so hard to find in this day and age.

a disabled friend of mine has one brand of shoes she wears....flat, lace up loafery/ almost look like keds, but has them in black, brown, navy, etc...all the same shoe that she can walk comfortably in.
For formal events, she is most comfortable in a gown, so her 'ugly' shoes are covered, and she can walk......
could your mom just find a comfortable pair of shoes like what she wears every day....and get them in a color that would look nice if her toes peek out from under her dress when she walks?

It's a thought... I can ask her. She's very sensitive about this and I don't blame her. She wants to look good, again, I really don't blame her. I was hoping that there would be a decent shoe out there for people with disabilities... we've come so far with a lot of stuff to make people feel good about themselves about less important things then - walking???, yet we can't find a shoe for a woman in her 60's who had a stroke. I can go on but I don't want to offend anyone in my own frustration. I guess this is a great business opportunity... take pretty shoes and make them comfortable or even tolerable.
