Well, Im going to a bridal shower in a few weeks and she wrote on the invitation, 'To Spend More Time With The Bride wrap your presents in clear'
Her reasons: 1) She hates being center of attention 2) Her side of the family is very poor and she doesnt want anyone to feel inadequate. She knows her side is going to get her the cheaper items and doesnt want to avoid making them feel inferior.
Anyway, I understand that it is new but I dont understand why some are so 'irate.' Every person has reasons when they make a decision. PLanning these events are hard - trying to please everyone is impossible - we all know that. Think about people who aren't inviting children, or guests with guests, some people think that is RUDE but I hate that word.
Plus, another poster stated, that a long time ago people thought that registries were RUDE. Think about it, we pretty much know exactly what we are getting - its not much of a surprise.
Well thats my opinion - just wanted to share that sometimes people have valid reasons for their decisions.

Re: Specific Reason for Clear Wrapping Paper ...
I personally think its a great idea, since my bridal shower was a display shower where the gifts were not wrapped...I think alot of people lose sight of what showers and weddings are about...Its really not about the gifts, its about spending time celebrating a joyous occasion with the ones you love and the ones who love you....Of course I loved and appreciated all of the generous gifts, but I appreciated spending time with the friends and family who came to celebrate in my honor alot more!!! I would much rather show everyone how much I appreciate them by spending time with them instead of opening gifts for 2 + hours....That is just my opinion...A 'traditional' shower was just not my thing!! Its a personal decision!

Re: Specific Reason for Clear Wrapping Paper ...
I recently heard about this and happen to think it's a great idea. I can see how some people (specifically the older generation) might think it's rude - they spent all this time picking out a gift, they want to see you open it - I'm just not one of them.
As it's been mentioned, there are many reasons for doing things and it's there decision to make as with all the wedding decisions. IMO the more time with family and friends the better

Re: Specific Reason for Clear Wrapping Paper ...
i'm the odd man out here. i think the shower is all about the bride, i don't think that we've lost sight of that. i want a small shower, but a shower none the less.
as far as the clear wrap, i find it odd. and i would be annoyed if my family did that for me. i mean, at that point, why even bother bringing the gifts to teh shower, why not just send them to the brides house?

Re: Specific Reason for Clear Wrapping Paper ...
I love the clear wrapping idea and I hope my mom uses it for my shower. I hate being the center of attention and quite honestly, most guests get bored watching someone open a pile of presents. The last shower I went to the guests were not paying attention to the bride and the roar of the conversations taking place completely drowned out the bride as she opened her gifts.
To each her own. I am all for this new tradition!

Re: Specific Reason for Clear Wrapping Paper ...
I think it would be okay to say 'unwrapped', but to ASK people to put the useless effort into wrapping something in clear celophane (which is ANOTHER item they'd have to go out and purchase) just seems inappropriate.
So, my question is: Why bother asking to 'wrap in clear' as opposed to just saying something like 'unwrapped gifts are welcome'?

I agree with that. I will not be wrapping the gifts with clear celophane but I will decorate it with a nice ribbon and bow.

i agree 100%!!! I posted something similar to this a few weeks ago and many thought it was rude to not open the gifts or to not have them wrapped. As for me, i'd rather spend my time with those that are at the shower than have them staring at me for 2 hours while i open gifts. To me, that's rude! Especially those that come from other states or hours away. I'd rather hang out with those people and spend time with them then sit there the whole time opening my gifts as if they weren't there. Does that make sense? (i just woke up so my mind is a little foggy... forgive me).

Well I agree with you. I want my presents wrapped. And personally I like looking at the bride open all her presents, I like giving presents as well and I would want to see her open mine. If you dont want to see me open the gift or share in what I like than dont come to my shower (JMO).
