My daughter is getting married this week. The best man and one of her matrons of honor plan on making a speech at the reception. Does the father of the bride usually give a speech too? how about the bride & groom. My daughter doesn't want to get up in front of 150 people and make a speech. Thanks

Re: speeches at wedding reception?
i guess it depends on how everyone feels about making speeches. of all the weddings i've been to, i can only remember 2 fathers giving a short speech to say congrats and good wishes to their daughter and husband, etc.
I've never seen a bride and groom give a speech, but i have heard that people do it. so it's really up to them if they feel comfortable saying a few words to thank everyone. good luck!

i would say it is most appropriate for the father of the bride to say a speech and definitely if he and his wife are hosting the wedding. . . . my father did that... he basically welcomed everyone, thanked them for coming, and wished us well... short and sweet!

Re: speeches at wedding reception?
My father did not want to speak, but DH did. I stood up there with him, but only he spoke. It is totally up to her - there is no right or wrong when it comes to this.
