Spending the night at The Plaza for my birthday

I heard on the news this AM that The Plaza will be closing on 4/30 for renovations to make it mostly condos & stores, so I told DH I wanted to spend the night there for my birthday and he's on board.

Geez, my HS prom was in the ballroom!! How funny!

Anyway, I love old architecture and historic building and landmarks so I'm happy to be able to stay there before it's all changed.

So wait,,, no more 'Plaza Hotel'???
It's going to be all condos? Or will it be like the Waldorf, where it 's a hotel, but has permanent residence as well?

I went back to see the article I read after hearing the tail end on the news (I don't even know what channel he had on) and now it says 'by subscription only'

I believe it said there would be a very small portion of the building kept as a hotel.

Even so, it sounds swanky compared to my HS's choice. My HS didn't choose a fancy LI location like that. Then again, my high school didn't have much money...

We had to pay for the prom ourselves to attend ... I think it was $75 at the time (19 years ago)

Ohhhh how fun!!!!!!!

The Plaza is so awesome - I love that hotel the way it IS I cannot believe they are renovating it to that extent.

My dad used to work at the Plaza many years ago .. and my Mom and he stood there for long weekends and would bring me back 'Eloise' stuff

Ok enough about me.. So happy that you are going to spend your b'day night their, Wendy ... You deserve it!

I even said to Tim (before he was like 'Yeah, sure'), 'We can go somewhere CRAPPY for dinner or cheap & cleazy for drinks' ...

Ohhh I love the Plaza..we stayed there right before I got engaged..The room was a little small though, but a nice experience.

Okay FIRST of all, numerous email & FM's have been sent to you about a *date* when you pull your Neil Diamond ... and like snail mail to you, they've gone unanswered!

And my boyfriend broke up with me a month before the prom and took someone else. I went by myself (well, I drove my other friend who dated a guy for all of HS but broke up before the prom, and my best friend and her date who for some reason had done this teeth whitening thing like Ross on that Friends episode). I also had to sit at a table next to the ex and at my table was my first boyfriend in HS and his date ... woohoo ... fun all around.

Aw, I'm sorry I haven't answered. We're still trying to firm up plans - I think we'll be in town beginning on the 18th, so maybe the 19th? Problem is, Seb wants to go skiing, but I have to be back in London by the following weekend, so I'm not sure how I'm going to see my family, see you guys, buy a new wardrobe because clothes are sooooo much cheaper in the US and I've been oh, so good over here, AND go skiing. But, you guys are a priority!

AND, dear Wendy, you are the hyper-hypo of the pen-pal world - I can't keep up!!! Although I do have something for you taht I havne't sent yet - one for you and one for my poor nan and I haven't mailed either one yet!

And, as for the prom, well, at least you were at the Plaza!
