I had knee surgery (torn ALC and other meniscus) and I was wondering if taking spin classes would be too hard on my knee? They always seem like so much fun and I figure maybe if I didn't push too hard I would be able to stick it out....

Re: Spin Class
My gym offers this and I'm dying to try it too. I hear it's hard though..and rough on your butt.

Re: Spin Class
I'm a spin instructor at NYSC and I love it! i have bad knees and as long as you use the correct form it doesn't bother me at all! Just take it at your own pace for the first few times. And yes, you butt will be very sore but after 3-4 times you'll be all used to it! its a great workout!

So you think as long as I take it easy the first few times and follow the instructor's direction I should be okay?

I used to take spin and I loved it! Just a word of advice, definitely get a gel seat cover for extra cushioning. It really helps out until you are used to the hard bike seats.

Re: Spin Class
Yes, I would get to the class a few minutes early and ask the instructor to help set you up. Tell them that you had a knee injury and they shouldn't have a problem adjusting it to reduce the stress that might be put on your knee. Take it at your own pace, let me know how it goes :)

Re: Spin Class
I did it!!! And I absolutely LOVE it!!!! I have actually have taken 2 classes now. I was quite sore after the first class, but I noticed after the second class I am a lot less sore. I took your advise and went at my own pace. Many of the girls go a lot faster then me, but I don't care, hopefully I'll catch up with them.
I can see my right leg is trying to over compensate for what my left leg can't do, but I'm trying to train it not to do that. The class is so much fun though. I can't believe I waited this long to take it. This is one thing I'm sticking with!!
Thank you all for your advice, support and help!!! You girls are the best!!!

Re: Spin Class
I used to teach spin - I enjoyed teaching it - but taking it I found soooo boring - I prefer cardio kickboxing - not good for the knees, but if you have good knees - the hour flies by!!!
