Spin-off from INSANE housing market

National Housing Markets

I'll try to find a more recent article. It compares the average price 1Q 2003 to 1Q 2004. Nassau/Suffolk is up 13.6%. I honestly thought this number was higher... gotta do some more investigating.

I knew California was a very hot market, seeing big increases in value. I am surprised though about Florida. Real Estate down there is skyrocketing. I know the snowbirds and retirees have been moving down there for years... but why the sudden increase?

Maybe cause its too expensive to live up here.

From what my SIL tells me, she is a real estate agent, down by her in Palm Beach,Lake Worth, Boca Raton and the surrounding areas the market is getting really high. When we were down there July 2002 she was taking us around showing us different communities and not one of them was under 250k. But if you go up by MIL and FIL the houses are still more reasonable you can get a great house for around 100k if not less!

My mother just moved to the Palm Harbour/Clearwater area of Florida and not only are the prices rising quickly (20%+ since October 2003) the condos are not even staying on the market for much more then 3 days or so.

I have noticed in general that people around here are frustrated with the expense and tired of the inconveniences and even with the prices rising, Florida is reasonable in comparison to what your dollar buys here but you have a nicer climate and quality of life.

I'd love to move to Florida right now; but it's just not an option for FH and I at this time.
