Spin-off of Anna's post -- what does your DH do

to help out with your children?

I have to say that Joe is quite helpful -- ok, neurotic, but sometimes helpful -- with Gianna. There are some things that are 'his' job and he gets a bit annoyed when I do it. He usually boils the bottles, fills them up and carries her into her room after a bath. Of course I do everything else!!

He told me that he would help out more if I told him what to do -- now, that's nice and all, but why do I need to tell him all the time? I'm not his mother, he should know what to do, especially after seeing me do it all the time. NO? But all in all, he's very helpful and when I do ask him to do something, he does it.

Tangent over.

Patrick does everything for Nicolas when he is home. Since he works SO much, he feels it's his duty to give me a break whenever he can. I love that because I'm able to relax, and they have quality 'Daddy and Nicky' time.

I really can't complain about Nick at all. He is quite helpful to both me and J. And, now that he knows he cannot break the baby, I will be sure to utilize him even more for baby #2

Steve's a wonderful daddy. Sean and I are so very lucky to have him!

He takes care of Sean when I'm at work and shares in taking care of him when we're all at home together. The only thing he hasn't done by himself yet is give him a bath, although he'll take him in the shower with him as long as I'm there to 'assist'.

Go daddy!!!

I better clarify my post in case Joe ever reads it!!

He's a GREAT daddy and sticks his nose into everything!!! If I brush her hair one way, he has to redo it another way -- he makes it look like a Mohawk since it's so spiky!!! Oh the nerves!!!! He's still a bit 'rough' around the edges with Gianna, but he's getting better. And she definitely chats with him more then mommy!!!

And the thing that really gets me is, he gets up more during the night to check on her then I do!!! Does that make me the bad mommy? He's ALWAYS fixing her blanket or jumps up at the slightest peep!!!

One night he jumped out of bed so fast, I thought somebody was breaking in!!!

Re: Spin-off of Anna's post -- what does your DH do

Rebecca's daddy is pretty involved, for a daddy (I don't say this to be mean). He has his agreed-upon tasks, but overall, as I'm sure you can all relate, the primary responsibility for her health and well-being is totally up to me! He will now help make the bottles for daycare in the morning, he will play with her while I wash all the bottles from daycare after work, and get the bath ready at 9pm, he will clean up after the bath is done (he has YET to ever give her a bath - too afraid), and he will empty the Diaper Dekor when it's needed. Otherwise, it is up to me to change her and giver her the morning bottle, to get her ready and bring her to daycare (that's a huge chore in itself), to visit her at lunchtime at daycare (that's a TREAT for me) to pick her up from daycare and bring her home, to change her after we get home, to give her the bottle, to keep her happy and loved until bath time, to give her the bath, and then to change her, give her the nighttime bottle, and put her to bed. Oh, and also, when she wakes up in the middle of the night, I give her the bottle. So, although he THINKS he is really doing a lot, he's not. But, to be fair, he is trying to do more of the other housework so that I can concentrate on the baby chores (he does the dishes, brings out the garbage, cleans the bathroom, etc.) So, I'm not complaining really.

LMAO

I have to say, John does ALOT also. He would stay in his sweats all weekend and just play on the floor with JA if he could

For quite some time now (as far back as I can remember ), he puts JA to bed. Most of the time I go to bed even before the baby, because of his 'late bedtime' routine they we're letting him get away with. So John is totally in charge of any dirty diapers, if he wants another bottle, and making sure he's sound asleep and out for the nite.
If and when JA would wake in the middle of the night (hasnt done it in weeks, phew) John would always get up and let me sleep (also because JA really looks for him and calls for him, too cute )

As soon as he walks through the door, he puts his stuff down and grabs his buddy (as soon as the key turns into the door, JA is screaming and jumping 'dahdee dahdee dahdee' and will walk off of his high chair if no one is watching

Daddy changes him and feeds him without needing my help, unless he just walked in and just wants an update on if he's due a feeding or changing.

He's really good with him, amazing enough, because he too, also thought he could never 'Handle' a fragile little baby or change diapers. I have to say in the time that he's home, he changes him more than I do (But my time home without him, I sure do more than my share of poopy changes )

Baths, I give JA baths alone all the time. But when daddy's home, especially now that Im getting bigger and bigger daddy will help out alot, from filling the tub, to taking him out, dressing him, etc. or even give him the bath himself.

After hearing those 'bum daddies' on the show, I have to be thankful for how helpful the daddy of my child is! (some of those dads would NOT give up any of their hobbies or pastimes to spend time with their children )

A mom I met out here, cant leave her hubby alone with her kids, because he feeds them stuff theyre allergic to and doesnt realize it
yikes! He refuses to learn or adapt to his kids' and what they eat or when they sleep/. UGH!

I have to say, I can leave JA with daddy for a week and be totally fine with him being well taken care of..

As soon as Steve walks in the door at the end of the day he takes Damien for 5 minutes of Daddy time, changes out of his work clothes and keeps him until he cries for me.

He can't help with feeding as Damien is BF exclusively. He does change diapers if I ask, offers when others are around

He hasn't bathed him yet but I do that during the day when he's at work. On the weekends he holds the video camera as it is always so funny

I love seeing them together. Steve has a these little songs he's made up for Damien and he loves them. It's sooo cute

Bob is just awesome with Ryan. In the beginning, I think - no, I KNOW, that he was way calmer about everything than me.

Even though I'm at home and do most of the caretaking, Bob helps with everything and is always willing to do whatever I ask of him. The only thing he hasn't done is the bath (which seems to be a common thing!!). He also never puts Ryan to bed, but I think he will get more involved in that when Ryan gets older. Part of that problem is that some nights he gets home from the city so late that he misses bedtime.

He has been alone with Ryan for full days and things have always gone well -- I'm so glad that Ryan and I have him!!

I thought it was just my husband that never knows what to do. Well, if he doesn't know what to do, and I have to ask/tell him, it really seems like I'm nagging him to do things all the time! We do the same things with Lyla everyday, there are only so many things that need to be done, but he doesn't always take the initiative.

He IS a GREAT daddy though! He feeds Lyla, bathes her, dresses her, plays with her, sings and reads to her. And, he tries to give me a break whenever I need it but putting her to bed and walking around the house with her when she's fussy.

OK, when she was first born, Brian did everything...I mean hands on as if I couldn't do it!! From diapers, to baths...

Now that he knows I'm 'capable' of taking care of our daughter...all the caring of the baby is on me. I can't remember the last time he's changed a diaper.. HOWEVER he's in charge of:
Changing the diaper genie
Changing her crib sheets
Garbage patrol
Putting her toys back (straightening up)
He's starting to give her BM in a bottle at night
Hauling down the laundry for me
Making coffee for the next morning

He's a great Dad and makes her belly laugh like you would not believe and when's he's playing with her..I get a break to do other things...Whew it never ends!

I want to add that Rebecca's daddy is particularly GREAT at one thing - when mommy needs a few hours to herself during the weekends, he will be totally in charge of her (changing, feeding, no baths) for as many hours as I need. It allows me to go shopping, or just to take a drive or something. It's great! (But sometimes I miss her when I'm gone too long!)
