Your honest opinion. And, let's say it does happen in the next 2 to 3 years - will anybody in your family be affected? (Translation 'have to go.')

I really don't know, but if they start expanding this 'axis of evil' capaign to N. korea, I really don't see how they have they manpower to cover it.

I don't think anyone in my family would e affected by a draft. FH would be older and he has enough health problems to get out of it. I do have a yopunger cousin who's 15 or 16 now....

I don't think there will be a draft. I dont think the people of the US will stand for it. Although we arent the people in office we DO run the govt (or atleast I like to think that we do). No one in my family will be effected by it but I know plenty of the 'right aged' people that would be and I would hate to see anything like that happen!!

I agree, it's just scary to think about the possibility. It's easy to threaten and invade a country that doesn't have nukes, but if he (we) are going to go after North Korea, we better be prepared to finally be fighting someone our own size.

Well, I work for a federal hospital where we see veterans and now all the active duty guys going to and returning from Iraq, and there could be a 'voluntary draft' ( don't know when, but it is the buzz around base. )This means that they will call for people to volunteer. Within the next 9 months if things don't calm down, an involutary draft can go into effect within 18 nmonths (this is not a fact it is the buzz that people are talking about).

What is a 'volunteer draft'?? Also no active duty member is expecting any type of calming down in the next 9 or 18 months. If you want to enlist you enlist.. There is a stop loss which means certain guys who may be also done with there commitment can't leave the military.

There won't be a draft. The USAF and Navy are currently getting rid of airman and sailors because they have too many.

A 'voluntary draft' is where a bill is signed where we ask in desperate measures for those who are not enlisted to step forward if desired, it is not mandatory but it is a 'plea for help'

Unfortunately, LOTS of our guys are coming back severly and perm. disabled, so they will be unable to stay 'active'. Lots of physical but more mentally disabled guys who are becoming 100% service connected because of the emotional/mental trauma. I have seen some guys on their exit interviews and these poor kids have horrible PTSD.

well as I said in another post, i speak to my FH recruiter for the USMC a lot and the numbers are up, yes they are out heavy right now, especially now because it is coming up to high school grad and it is a good time for this right now.

I don't think the draft is going to happen at all. there are plenty of volunteers out there.

This is the sad part about war..the emotional impact as well as the physical.
