spin off on kptoys post...BC and acne

For those of you who take BCP for PCOS..do you find when you switch brands, your skin breaks out?
I'm having horrendous acne lately..I switched to the patch 2 months ago and my skin is a disaster!

Leelee- I have never really switched. I have a lot of problems with bc and high blood pressure, so once we found one that worked for me we did not think of switching. I think I have been on this one for 6 yrs now.

Also, just FYI - pcosers not supposed to take tri-phasic pills, we are supposed to be monophasic. I am not sure what the patch is, just figured I would mention it.

yes! i switched from desogen to yasmin and i broke out like a 14 year old girl! i switched back to the generic of desogen and everything is fine. my **** insurance company doesn't cover desogen, but at least the generic has the same main ingredients!

YES...had the same problem...tried to go to a lower dose pill. I was on ortho-tricyclin and once I changed my face was horrible...I switched back to ortho a few months later...and I am afraid to ever change again!

Oh LeeLee I feel your pain right now - this PCOS is a real pain in my big tooshie!!! I just went back on the pill and my skin is so gross and I'm back on 3 months already. I have been through 8 different pills b/c none of them work. Ortho-cyclen seems to be the best so far but my skin is still breaking out and I still have horrible PMS. I can't even tell you what I ate today.

I have a derm. appt. on Monday. I am going to talk to him and see what he says. I hear Acutane works really well and you have to be on the pill to take it.

I will send you a FM on Monday and let you know how it all goes. I feel your pain LeeLee - bad skin s**ks!!!!!!!!!

Hmmm...Liz, that's interesting! I don't know what the patch is but will call my dr. to find out.
I've switched a couple of times from different brands..my skin always breaks out but then settles in. I like the patch but it's more $$ than the pill (my insurance only covers part of it) and I can't deal with the breakouts.
I'm glad to see it's not just me....

Ortho-tri-cyclen made me break out in cyst-like zits. I've been off it (and on demulen) for about 3 years now...and up to about 6 months ago, I still had some scars on my face from the cyst-like sits! My sister & bes friend also had the same problem with O-T-C.

I'm on the generic of demulen now and my problem is migraines & tension headaches the week of my period...I need to find another pill. Ugh.

It's so frustrating!! These pills are supposed to help your skin!!
I find it helps when I get used to it but heaven forbid you need to switch for some reason. It's driving me crazy that it's hot and sticky outside and I'm wearing a pound of makeup.

I was on orth-tri-cyclen and my skin was problem-free! I've been off since January and it's like I'm going through puberty again.... had to go to a dermatologist

We're in the boat!!! I see 17 year olds with better skin...it's so aggrivating!!!!

interesting about the Ortho-Tri and the cyst like zits.... overall this pill has been OK for me, though my skin is not crystal clear like all those commercials used to say! (i think it makes my boobs huge though, ouchie)

Ladies,

I am on accutane right now. I just finished my first month treatment. Typically you are put on a six month course- and you CANNOT get pregnant during these 6 months or for at least 3 to 4 months after you finish.. so to be safe, I say a year... If you are TTC- then this is NOT for you.

I am on 40 mgms a day. The worst side effect I am suffering from in very dry lips (nothing a little lip balm won't fix). Other than that my skin is amazingly dry- I actually USE moisterizer now...! AND my hair is very dry- no more the oily mess of 1 month ago- I only wash my hair every 3 days!!!! And even then it isn't oily or smelly- I just feel I have to.

As Accutane can adversly affect cholesteral and kidney/liver fuction, you need to get a blood test every month... but so far I would say it is SO Worth IT.

when I was taking Orth Tri-Cyclen, I didnt see any difference on my face clearing up

Sassy...how long have you been on the Accutane? Has your skin cleared up (aside from the dryness)?
I have very high cholesterol so it wouldn't be a good choice for me...
