Re: Spin off--PLasma TV
It was all FH's doing but Sears will price match and he did a lot of research and got a price quote from 888 CAMCORDER (or something like that, in Commack) and Sears matched it and gave 10% of the difference in price too.
Or maybe this is all a story he concocted so I wouldn't FREAK OUT that he bought it as a 'birthday' present for himself, weeks after he lost his job and while we are paying for a wedding!!!
Check into it anyway!!! Good luck.
I'm not sure what brand we have, but he did say that the plasma at Costco (some non big brand) is actually good quality and a good deal based on his research.

I wanted to get one also, but my Dad said if you wait a bit, the prices will come down a lot, so we are waiting for now.
Costco has alot, and they usually have great prices

Re: Spin off--PLasma TV
My DH just came from working at the CES convention in Las Vegas (the Computer Electronics show - it's huge in the industry) where everything was all about flat screen TVs.
Plasma supposedly is not that good, that the regular flat screens are better, the plasmas don't last that long. And that was from all the experts there.
We had originally wanted to get one, but we're going to wait now.

Re: Spin off--PLasma TV
We had a 42' one on order, then it got delayed and we had the option to wait or cancel. We canceled. Why? Because the life and picture quality is only supposed to be so-so, and we decided on getting an equally good LCD TV instead. We did our research and we hope we're happy with our decision.

Re: Spin off--PLasma TV
Patrick wants one for our living room. I worry that it will fall off the wall. What are the chances of that happening??
here's a link to the debate over plasma and LCD...
LCD doesn't have big screens yet though...
DH has had his LCD monitor for 3 years...and it still looks great...even after moving 5 times!!!!

Re: Spin off--PLasma TV
We have a small LCD monitor and a 42' plasma by Panasonic. We got it online for about $3500. It still retails at Circuit City for $5K. We researched them quite a bit. If you leave the picture on 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, it'll take about 3 years to burn out. We certainly don't watch THAT much television! And even if it onlylasts 10 years it'll probably be upgraded before then anyway.
We had a hell of a time getting it up but the bracket that's used to secure it to the wall is pretty strong. Strong enough that I could hang from it and it wouldn't budge, so I'm pretty sure we don't have to worry about it falling off.
