Re: Spin off...How many of you tipped your title writer?

I have worked as a title closer in the past. The tip is normal. The title company basically acts as a liason between the three interested parties and helps things run smoothly. We usually only get a $40 appearance fee and then we get paid to satisfy and/or record mortgages, liens and judgments. My firm charged $175 ea for this and I was allowed to keep everything minus my Fed- ex expenses. We also notarize every document multiple times.

I have been on closings where I was lucky to get my appearance fee with no tip no charges. I've also been on closings where I've walked out with a clear 1K.

It's a great field for working moms because you can freelance and set your own hours.

not me. Sorry, but they are getting paid to do that.

If you don't tip just be aware that your stuff might not get filed as quickly as you want. Also, the tip might be built into the bill.

100$ it is standard practice...you do want your stuff filed right away! This ensures it.

I'm sorry I left mine! I really enjoyed going from closing to closing and not being stuck in an office all day!

We tipped too on the advise of our attorney!
She was great though and really knew what she was talking about and helped out with a mortgage question/problem in the paperwork.

I just wanted to confirm that at our closing yesterday our attorney advised us to tip the title closer $100.

We, also, were advised by our attorney to tip the title woman $75. What do you do, make a big stink and look cheap????

We were also told to tip $100.

However, I feel like Erica does on this one. I firmly believe that tips should be given to reward extraordinary service, and therefore are given after the service is rendered. I hate when I hear that you should tip someone if you want them to do their job right. Call it a fee then. That's what it is.
