I am debating about getting a personalized one and have a few questions...
what do you do with one after the day?
what are they normally made of?
are they not for people to walk on, and if so, won't they get kinda dirty?
if that's the case, it seems OVERLY wasteful for ME to buy one, however cute they may be. just looking for opinions...I've seen some really nice ones but if it has no practical use....
are they ever plastic?

you don't need to buy one Jess, they may be cute, but what will you do with it afterwards? roll it out down your steps? hehehe

I agree. 1) One will be provided by your limo company 2) Yes, they come in plastic, but sometimes heels get caught in them and they rip 3) It's only used in the church, and rolled out right before the ladies walk down the aisle - does it get dirty - a little, but nothing crazy unless it's raining and muddy outside 4) IMHO: COMPLETE WASTE OF MONEY, most especially since the personalized ones run at least $100++++ - use that money somewhere else!

Re: Spinoff- aisle runners
I am not sure that I agree they are a 'waste' of money...especially when you can make your own for a total of about $20 if not less.
There are plenty of things to do with it when the event is over...I got these ideas from The Original Runner Co...
You can use a section of the runner as matting when framing your bridal bo-k and invitation....
Make it a family heirloom..
Frame the runner or mount it as a piece of artwork in your new home..
Have a section made into a table runner for anniversary dinner or any romantic dinners..
Donate your aisle runner to a church, temple, or great organization for someone else to enjoy...
Make it into a pillow, memory quilt, or Christmas Tree skirt...
or (as someone I know did)...drap it around your first childs basinet (can also be done with veil).
I am not saying that it is not a 'extra' expense, but it doesn't have to be outrageous and really makes a statement when guests arrive at the ceremony location. I am sure some of things we are all doing for our wedding could be considered a waste of money to someone else. I just think we ought to be alittle sensitive to each others tastes and decisions. Thanks..

I think it will be a nice touch! The $150 I am spending on it, will not break the bank. I do not have the patience to do it myself. The $150 is well worth the time I would have spent on it!

I think they look great in photos as well. It is an extra expense, but so are more than half of the other things we add to our weddings.
If you like the look, I would DIY it (I plan to). If you are going to paint the runner, it is best not to use plastic because of run-off, etc. It is much easier to paint on cloth.

I think they are nice, but I am not going to purchase one. If you got one, you could fold it and frame it so that the personalized part shows.

Re: Spinoff- aisle runners
I am going to buy one for about $30 and then try to personalize it myself. If it looks awful, then I'll just use the limo company aisle runner. No need to spends hundreds on it!

Re: Spinoff- aisle runners
They're very cheap to make yourself. I would never have spent the $$ for someone else to make it. We spent a total of $5!
The aisle runner will be laid out when the guest arrive. The aisle will be 'roped' off, so the guest have to get to their seats from the side not the aisle. The only people walking on the aisle runner will be the BP. Afterwards...who cares. We're going to roll it up and stick it in the closet. For $5 we're going to have a beautiful memory and pictures.

For $5 you can't go wrong. This is definitely a DIY project, I wouldn't spend crazy $$$ on this but if you have the time and talent you can make a beautiful one. Great job FallBride!!!!

fallbride, that thing is AMAZING!
hmmm...may have to hit some fabric stores. I am not going to spend a lot. some of the ideas listed for after use are nice I guess, but I know myself, and I KNOW I will not do any of that stuff...I'm just not like that.
we'll see. as always, thanks for the input!
