Spinoff: BM Dresses online

Would you buy online and get it altered yourself if a bride asked you to?

bc im finding the prices on housefbrides to be great...and i think the girls would save a TON if they bought it from there and did alterations on their own.

edit:

if you say yes or no or other please post and tell me why...

i just need honest opinions.

I was considering it for my girls

edit to explain:

I want to do it because I want things to be sort of inexpensive for my girls and if I can help them get a bargain why not.

I am only going to do this if its a huge difference - for example, if a dress in the store is 165 and its 120 online of course I am going with online!

It depends really on how much alterations they would need. I am in a wedding in a few weeks and the bride bought our gowns in a bridal shop (where she got her dress) however, they didnt do the alterations for us. We had to use outside tailors and it cost me over $100 just to make the dress an inch shorter at the bottom. I almost died. The dress was over $200 plus the alterations and shoes...
Some bridal shops will give the girls discounts if you order the Bm dresses through them. Burton's is giving my girls 20% off their dresses and their alterations cap out at $45!!! not too bad. at least IMO lol I'm not sure about other bridal stores

I have heard horror stories about house of brides on here.

I know someone who personally used netbride.com and she said it was great.

I would totally buy online.

I would definitely buy online! I'm all about any way to save money!!! I know a bunch of places have good points and bad points - so go with the majority of good points. There's a great book out there that gives info on all the online bridal places. I have it at home and will bring it in tomorrow, scan in the pages & send to you...

house of brides has HORRIBLE reviews...honestly everytime i saw a review on them it was bad.

I wouldn't only bc after i went to Rk bridal to look at bm dresses i realized how completely different many of the dresses look in person. I went in there wanting to see quite a few dresses i always see online, when i saw them i was like W** this looks nothing like it, the color is off and didn't like it. One dress though looked WAAAY better in person and made its way up the list. Before i went to Rk, i would've probably said yes just buy online, now im afraid.

If you already saw the dresses in person then that is different...and if you check out the company then that should be fine

I responded No. I mean if the bride absolutely insisted then of course I would do as she asked, but it wouldn't be my #1 choice just because I don't really like or trust ordering things online. I don't even really order regularr clothes online cause I hate the hassel of sending them back if they don't fit right.

i know that FMIL wanted to order my dresses online. . . the dye lots are not guaranteed to be the same. . . and sometimes they just sell knock offs - i have read terrible reviews about these online sites. . . and I would be worried spending so much money . . .

also sometimes if you alter the dress at a place you didnt buy it it ends up costing more

yeah very true, going elsewhere you are going to get charged alot for alterations...if you get alterations at the story you buy it from then they do it for less.

yes very true, ive heard great things about her...I think its a bit far from me well more importantly the girls so not sure how they would feel about that lol...but i hear she also does great alterations
