I was reading the post about donating your eggs and i have a question...i remember in college being asked about this because of the money and i had no clue what it really was about.
now personally i would have no issue doing it (espeically way back in college because the $ is really good usually...but my question is this for anyone who knows....
What does this really entail???? It must be a serious or painful procedure for the amount of money....please fill me in...

DH's crazy ex girlfriend did this because she had major debt - I know she had to give herself crazy amounts of hormone shots and it made an unstable person that much nuttier!!

Honestly i had no clue...i thought you just had to go through like a gynecological procedure.....i had no clue that you needed hormones, etc......
I remember the people who did this in college...but the questions would ask you like your appearence, IQ, etc.....

Yeah - you take hormones so you can harvest a whole bunch of eggs and then they are surgically extracted. It's good money but as far as I've heard, you go through a LOT of stuff!

I don't think I could do it. But how much money do you get paid? I saw in ad in the paper the other day for it. I just would always be thinking about where the egg went.

you get put on MAJOR (fertility) drugs
then from what I hear they stick a HUGE needle in you to harvest the eggs from your ovaries, which I imagine would be pretty painful.
I'm sure there is some confidentiality issues

i would do it, if it didn't involve all the hormones/etc. the idea of that makes me nervous.

If I was able to do it, (too old) I would probably do it, not just because of the money though. I would love to be able to help someone be able to have a child that wants one so desperatley.

Its really not that bad. It's basically the same thing as doing IVF but you just don't continue after egg retrieval.
You do a few weeks of shots (the needle is very tiny, like an insulin needle), and go for u/s and b/w to check how you are coming along. You are put out for the egg retrieval. It only takes about 15 minutes. When you wake up you may be a little crampy, and that might continue for a few days, but otherwise that is it.
