I live in bayside. It's nice but are you looking to buy a home? If so there are some parts of queens that are more expensive than LI

yes, it's for a home....if we stay in LI, it would have to be in western nassau.

I grew up in Rockland and up until Friday, lived in Astoria for a few years. Astoria is a fantastic place to live. Rockland is a wonderful place to grow up!

i'll be honest and say alot of good areas in queens are more expensive than average homes in LI. For example in astoria starting price for homes are $600k and thats a fixer upper, the average home is $800-900k and nothing big and luxurious either. But i mean like 3 bedroom regular home, and maybe not even a back yard you will pay that much. The apartments alone are around $300-500k. Forest hills is also very pricey for a home but affordable to buy a co-op or condo. Bayside and whitestone can also get VERY pricey when you try buying a home. To get a better idea and see for yourself. Go to www.MLSLI.com and put in certain queens neighborhoods and even if your starting price is at the lowest which is $0 when you pick, you'll see what prices start at.
There are some areas that are less expensive and homes can be lets say $400-500k. But then the problem is some of these neighborhoods dont have public transportation close by or can be a long ride into the city and then also the neighborhood might not be the greatest.
YOu have LIC and astoria that are VERY close to the city and prices have gotten insane. In LIC if you look at apartment listings you'll see many of the buildings sell 1 br's starting at $600-700k.
Whitestone is gorgeous and very residential, but very pricey. Also theres no public transportation, well no NYC MTA trains. You either have to take a long bus ride to another town with a train or you can take the LIRR from there.
Theres areas like maspeth, woodhaven that have some homes for less

i was on mlsli.com looking for myself, and wanted to see if prices have gone down in certain parts of queens. Here to give you an idea. As you can say woodhaven is the most affordable, the whole first page only shows woodhaven at starting prices. Then for the first few pages, all the homes in low ranges are in maspeth, woodhaven and glendale.

i live in whitestone. althought there arent any trains here. there are express busses that take u to manhattan in 30-40 min.. also the lirr is an 8 min or less car ride to the bayside or auburndale station)
or i take the q16 to main street (15-20 min)
basically it will take you an hour to get to manhattan.
fresh meadows is also a great neighborhood.. great schools, very residential... but again there arent any trains (which is what makes the neighborhood great)
