SPINOFF: men and their mothers

SPINOFF: men and their mothers

I've heard 2 things all my life

1) Never marry a mama's boy

2) Look at the way he treats his mother, that's the way he'll treat you.

Which do you think is better advice?

I say # 2.

Not for nothing... but you can't have #2... without having somewhat of a #1.

You can't have your cake and eat it too IMO.

id wouldnt say one is better then the other but for me if I was giving advice I would say both. I married a mamas boy

Based on those two choices, definitely #1 is the better advice! I have dated mommas boys and it is really bad news.

Though I'm not sure I entirely agree 100% with #2 .. DH treats his mom wonderfully, but I knew some men who have not necessarily treat their mom's well but but are still wonderful husbands/boyfriends.. sometimes its HARD to treat a mom good when SHE is the problem (if ya know what I mean..)

ETA: i misunderstood the q, so I revised

I disagree. DH treats his mom very well.. would do anything for her . But he is in NO WAY a Momma's boy, far from it. There is a big difference between respecting and loving your Mom, and being whatever it is you might think constitutes a 'momma's boy' .

hmmmmmm.

all the guys I've dated ( and am marrying) always had a polite, but distant relationship to their mother. . .

Fh is probably the closest to his mother, & that isn't as close as I am to my parents.

I'd say no mamma's obys, but there should be some respect.

Unless his mother is a loon.

I think a good combination of both is good. DH treats his mother very well, but can tell her 'no' when it's necessary. He's got the perfect blend of #1 and #2.

I'm sure my opinion will change in a few years - don't mind me, I'm a gushing newlywed.

I think #1 and #2 are both true. I do not think you need to be #1 in order for #2 to be true. I think you should marry a #2, but steer far clear of a #1. Been there, done that.

Best Advice:

Marry a man who's mother lives many many miles away.

Re: SPINOFF: men and their mothers

never marry a momas boy. I was engaged 3 years ago to a guy who was a total mommas boy, he broke off the engagement b/c the mother wanted him to marry a greek girl, I am Italian/Jewish and she did not like that. She always was kissing him and touching his hair, he would always listen to her no matter what, she was always saying 'my son this and my son that' I couldn't stand it anymore, but I also think that a man could also treat his wife wonderful if he was a mommas boy. It could be a good or a bad thing it depends.

I disagree . . . I realize I am biased here but DH is NOT a mama's boy @ all, however he treats his mom like she were a queen. I have always been so flattered by the way (he is 42 -shhhh don't tell him I told you - and has live one his own since college) he will randomly drop a dozen roses in her fridge if he is 'in the neighborhood' during the work day. She is a great woman and he admires her for that, and I, him.

So, in a nut shell, #2

Re: SPINOFF: men and their mothers

replace #2 with SISTER if he has any

although in our case if FH treated me like he does his sister, we would not be getting married i have actually helped rebuild that relationship a bit. even though they don't get along, they are both very loyal to each other and the family.

I married a momma's boy and although she does have alot of opinions and a big mouth, it doesnt mean Don has to listen to them. We just let her talk and we do our own thing.

i have to agree with you there....DH is wonderful to his mother and to me...but he is sooo not a mama's boy! he's just a good person who treats people with respect....
