Spinoff - Microwave heating bottles

Spinoff - Microwave heating bottles

This isn't an issue for me... yet, but I have another question... do bottles really need to be heated? I have heard some babies prefer the room temp, or cold BM or formula. Is there any medical reason for heating?

(of course it makes sense to me in the winter to have a nice tummy full of warm milk before bed, but the summer doesn't seem as necessary )

When I give Andrew a bottle it is ALWAYS at room temp. We use powder formula and bottled water. I keep his water at room temp when ever I need a bottle I just mix it. This method works out great for us. During the 1st 6-8 weeks Andrew was eating every 2 hours!!! And I wasn't producing enough BF and he wasn't latching on so needless to say the first several weeks were extremely changleling. I had to pump and then feed him or vice versa. I had to find ways to make it work and warming up a bottle on the 1st floor with a screamimg newborn was not working for us. Several times I almost fell down the stairs half asleep. Thats when I decided to bring his formula and water upstairs before we go to bed. I just make bottles with only the powder in them. When I need a bottle I just add the water. It is also a great method for traveling and going out.Thankfully, at 8 weeks he finally latched on making life sooooooo much easier,(no more pumping!) but he still gets supplemented with a bottle because my supply is not enough.

NEVER microwave a bottle of breastmilk. It kills the important stuff inside of it. I pump full time so Molly is on breastmilk, but in a bottle.
Molly takes her bottle room temp, warmed or right out of the frig cold. She always has. It makes life A LOT easier too. I never have to worry about warming her bottle if I am not home.

Florenze- can I help you with your supply issues? I had no supply when I came home from the hospital and was able to build it up within a month. Eating oatmeal really helped as did taking feenugeek (an herb). If you pump once or twice a day after nursing you may find your supply increasing as well.
