Re: SPINOFF: Newlyweds who planned from OUT OF TOWN post your advice
Delagate and let go...that is my only advice..my mother and aunt went to the hall that I found online..checked it out and took pics..then I booked it. My bridesmaids went dress shopping without me, I told them I wanted them in navy..it worked out perfect. I came up to NY for my brother's communion, and had a hair trial booked for that weekend. I told the florist what I wanted, and the morning of my wedding was happy that it turned out well. DH and I did our pre-cana and family planning in Tampa..then I just mailed the certificate to our church in NY.

plan your weekends very carefully so that you can maximize your trips to LI (if applicable)

I could not agree more!
Have one or people you trust on LI do some running around for you.
The internet (and LIW) are your BEST FRIENDS!
Whenever you are on the phone with vendors for the first time explain that you are from out of town. Alot of times people will not give you prices over the phone. I learned that if I told vendors that if I could not have basic pricing over the phone then I would have to scratch them off my list all together...then I explained that I was planning from out of town. MOST poeple helped me, a few didn't and I decided that if they were not going to be helpful now then I did not want them as a vendor of mine anyway.
Get the dress in your hometown!! Yes this will s uck getting your dress to LI but I learned the hard way! I ordered my dress in NY and when it came in I could not go see it...well it was the wrong dress! PLUS its just easier with the amount of fittings you have to do.

Re: SPINOFF: Newlyweds who planned from OUT OF TOWN post your advice
I have done so much of my planning online by getting opinions on liweddings...
The big things (reception hall, flowers, photo) I planned out on alternate weekends...its the best way I could do it. I set up 3 photography appointments in one day, as well as the florist the same day.
We did precana where we live, and I ordered my dress near me as well AND picked out the bridesmaid dresses here too.
I still have to do invitations and limo, but I am doing invites online (ordered samples in the mail and determined it through that) and limos and I am going by word of mouth...I'm a pretty trusting person so I don't easily freak out about certain things...
Good luck!!! FM me with any questions!

I agree 100%!!
The dress thing is the most difficult if it's too far away. The fittings are usually done on weeknights and it's a pain to have to get all the way to LI. I got my dress in NJ and I was so glad I did (plus no sales tax!)
Everything else can be done in large weekend-absorbing chunks!!

Re: SPINOFF: Newlyweds who planned from OUT OF TOWN post your advice
I got my dress in Chicago but since I told the wedding was in NY they put that address down so I would not have to get charged tax. This way I would have to pay shipping (which is less than tax), but since I am in Chicago to pick up the dress I don't have to pay shipping!!
I definetly say get your dress where you live because of fittings and everything. I asked all the stores I went to when do they do final fittings. Alot said 2 weeks before, and the place I actually ordered my dress fromm said they like to do it the week of the wedding because brides tend to loose a couple of pounds during that week. I'm trying to be in NY at least a week before the wedding though so I will probably do my final fitting a week before.
I actually had my sister do a makeup trial for me, and I've been looking at alot of trials that brides on here did. As a result, I think I know who I'm going to use, but I am going to have a trial myself when I come home this week.
