Spinoff of Cars post.... anyone have experience with leases gone bad?

OK, here's the scoop...

My current lease allows me to have 42k miles on my car. My lease is up in November of this year, but unfortunately I'll hit 42k miles by Friday, at my estimate! DH and I share my car, which is why there's so many miles on it.

Is there any possible way I can get out of my lease or not have to pay an astronomical amount of money when I turn it in? I have 9 months left and every time I get in my car I'm going to cringe... especially because I know we have a lot of obligations coming up this year that I'll have to drive to. I thought maybe I could roll over the remaining months of my lease into a new car (but we don't want to lease again for obvious reasons!), but I was just checking on Nissan's website and I didn't see anything like that. No matter what it looks like I'm screwed...

Has this happened to anyone? I need advice!!

my hubbys aunt had this problem, she went over the mileage and had wound up buying the car, beacsue it would have sot more to return it and pay for the mileage.
Not sure in your situation. Hope it works out for you

Happened to me and I got screwed, but that is because I could not roll over the payments because I bought a used car. You can defenitly roll over the payments into a new car if you buy from the same dealer.

crunch the numbers...

you may be better off buying it off in 9 months...and then trading it in...

also if you bought any extra miles when you started the lease...that money will come off the buyback price

at least this is what we were told by saab...we have 1 1/2 years to go and I wish I could just buy it now...

We just want to get rid of our leased vehicle period.

P.O.S. car is acting up lately and I have recently decided I don't want to spend one more penny on it other than gas.

How costly is it if we return it with a cracked windshield? We could replace it but we've been putting it off because we fear it would get cracked again before we turned it in.

As the car is now, it shuts itself off from time to time. Luckily never while on the road. We HATE this lease. Jim has learned he never wants to lease again. Ours is up in Oct (right at the wedding - sigh) as if we need more stress??!!!!

XElindrya - what kind of car do you have that does that? That sounds more like a lemon which maybe you can just investigate the lemon laws.
If you plan on turning the car in, let them give you a price for the windshield then see if you can find some place cheaper. it might be easier just to let them do it. On my current lease I'm covered up to $1500 for all of those minor wear and tear, bumps, etc.

good luck!

Another option that I did one time because the car was starting to break down was that I sold the car to Car Cash in NYC. I can't remember if I made money but it was just such a relief to have that car off my hands..

My sister....her lease is up in April. Last month...the ENGINE blows on the car. It's not covered under warranty because she bought extra mileage...and she has 62,000 miles on the car. Anyway....costs her almost 4K to put in a new engine!!! Now...the lease is up in 2 months. She will still be paying this off long after she returns the car. There is no way an engine should blow up after 62,000 miles!

So do you think they'll forgive my mileage problem if I buy a new car from the same dealership? I'd be willing to do that... I guess it all depends.

your insurance may do this for free...if you don't have glass coverage - it might still be free if its smaller than a $1 bill...

The P.O.S. vehicle is a 2001 Hyundai Tiburon. We got it with 59miles on it.

The crack on the windshield currnetly starts at the lower right of the windshield (passenger side) and goes ALL the way to nearly the registration sticker. (across the driver's line of sight - yeah yah yeah i know.. )

glass coverage was only like $10/month extra for me...maybe something to think about?

DH is a salesman. GM runs a program called 'pull ahead' where they will take in your old lease and set you up in a new one w/o all those extra fees. The catch is you have to be trading in a GM car to get another GM car. I don't know if other companies work similar promotions. FM if you have any questions.

I was going to post something similar. My DH is a GM dealer (Pontiac, Buick and GMC Trucks). I can also run any questions you have by him. My dad traded in his Jimmy early a year or two ago, but he went into another lease.

I moved Jim to my policy mid term (he WAS in assigned risk-NASTY premiums) and *I* have full glass so he has it too now..

But.. (DONT LAUGH) well.. it's sorta embarassing but.. Im an ex Claim person. Did Auto claims for 3 and a half years.

I just can't bring myself to lying and saying the damage happened AFTER the vehicle was added to the policy

Yep.. Im pathetic .. Some Girl Scout stuff didnt wear off.
