For those of you who are not having kids at your wedding, how are you letting people know? I know that the 'appropriate' thing would be to just address the envelopes to whomever is invited and hope that the invitees know well enough that it's *only* the people on the envelope who are invited. But, given some of the posts I've been reading, it seems like maybe we shouldn't be making this assumption. Would it be easier all around to just put the dreaded 'adult only reception' on the invite? Or should we stick with the etiquette rules so at least *we* aren't rude ones?

I told people when we got engaged that is was a black tie adult only affair and I am sticking to it. For the invites, stick with proper ettiquette.

We're spreading the word but we are also putting Adult Only Reception at the bottom of the invite

IMO...and i know this might not occur to all invitees but if the invitation says to Mr. And Mrs. Smith then they are the only ones invited. Why someone would assume that meant for their 3 kids to come is silly

I agree those people are silly AND rude. SO many people called my mom after they recieved the invitation (to my sister's wedding) asking if they can bring their kids. My mom said No it is adults only. Some people also wrote their kids names on the response card. My mom then had to call those people and tell them no kids.

We didn't add kids names to the invitation and luckily and everyone just responded for themselves. I honestly didn't think it would be an issue until I started reading these posts. Guess I was just lucky.
PS. My thinking was I thought that parents might want a night out w/o their kids.
