Spinoff of Sophia's Crib Milestone

What Mom's put the baby directly in crib --instead of bassinett or co-sleeper?

We are 99% sure we are going straight tyo crib-- house is ranch style so you can basically 'see' the crib from our bed and a bassinett wouildnt really 'work' in our bedroom--- although there is room it would not be ideal

So feedback please

Laura, I say go for it (not getting one). Its really one of those things that they 'market' to us as a 'must have'. There's nothing wrong with going straight to the crib.

If you feel a need to be close to the baby the first few months (and regret not having one), maybe you can sleep by the pack-n-play (if you get one with a bassinet piece on top) or maybe you can cosleep (if closeness becomes an issue).

But they way I see it is (although I do have a bassinet) you will be getting up to change the baby's diapers whether you cosleep or have the bassinet within arms reach (whether you BF or bottle). So 'not having to get up' is sooo not true..

Hope that makes sense.

yeah - bassinet = NOT NECESSARY. for me anyway. You totally have to get up. No matter what. And if you have a baby like mine, you are getting up and like starting the day at 3:00 am. So you are up, rocking, feeding, jiggling, running water, singing. All this stuff I can't do in the bedroom cause my husband needs to work at 8:00 am!

i wish we had started just with the crib and gotten her used to it. Because she hated the bassinet, I took her into the bed, and now we are stuck wtih that. which I love and dont' regret, but it would be nice if she laid down in her little bassinet and drifted off to sleep. The few times that she DID do it for a nap here and there, I never got the feeling that she felt 'closer environment' - like they say the crib is too vast feeling - she doesn't seem to be bothered by that.

I'l let you know how it continues to go.

I think it's a good idea too. The only problem I see is that when Lyla was a newborn and we tried the crib and cosleeper (which is bigger than a bassinet) people said that she may not feel 'safe' in there because it's too big, even when she was swaddled.

I don't see a problem with it! We were planning on doing just that, but my brother gave us his bassinet after his 6 month old grew out of it. Note sure we'll be using it though.
