Did you and your DH/DW ever have a period while you were dating that you broke up or took a break?

DH and I were broken up for about 6 weeks during the summer after we had been dating for about 4 months. DH is 4 years younger than me and I think still wanted to have a carefree 'non-attached' summer. That was a horrible six weeks and I went to Europe on a trip that I had planned on by myself but was going to cancel because I was so depressed. By the time I went to Europe, DH was sending me 'I miss you' emails and, according to him, going through everything that I did when we broke up - the grief, the sadness...all of that. He begged me for a second chance when I got back from Europe.

Since the night , (Thursday, June 18 1998) we have been together. It was so natural for us.

It was kinda weird, because we just meshed so well. Even in the early stages of our relationship, our friends and family said it felt like we had been together for years.

I broke it off for a week when I was going away on a cruise with my family. It was 3 months into the relationship...and it was the first 'real' relationship I'd ever been in....so I started getting freaked out.

While I was away, I couldn't stop thinking of him...and I kept wishing he was there to share everything with me....that's when I realized how much I cared for him.

So as soon as we got back I called him and told him I wanted to get back together again.....and we've been together ever since.....

Well, this isn't exactly the same, but mrswask talking about her DH wanting to have a 'carefree summer' reminds me of my story, so I'll share anyhow.

DH and I were friends for 2 years before admitting to each other that we were interested in one another in June 1999. I had plans to be in Israel for a month, starting at the end of June, and I didn't want to be attached. I wanted the chance to meet other people and have the freedom to start something if I wanted. DH and I started dating before I left, but I refused to make a committment. Meanwhile, we spent the whole month that I was in Israel writing to each other and calling each other, and it ended up being as good as if we were attached. When I landed in JFK at 4:30am on July 28th, Brad was there with my family, with a dozen roses and 'officially' asked me out!
