I LOVE the look of Fondant, but it is very $$, I like whipped cream but my CH said it may not hold up well since we are getting married in July. They recommended we do Buttercream because it will hold up and can be smoothed to give the appearance of fondant . . . I don't know how crazy I am about Buttercream, but when I tasted it at Villa Lombardi's, theirs was pretty good compared to others . . . So what are you girls all doing?

I heard the same thing, that buttercream stands up better, and is firmer than whip cream. Personally, I don't like buttercream, I am going with Whip cream

Buttercream.
I like it- I've heard fondand doesnt' taste so good.
I was wondering if BC can be smoothed out.
That's good- it give me more desing options.

I LOVE whipped cream.
Never had it on a non-homemade cake though.

I am debating between fondant or buttercream. If I do the fondant though since it doesn't have much taste I would have them put a thin layer of buttercream underneath. Alot of bakers told me that makes it have better taste.

I really don't like fondant. I didn't even eat the cake when I first tasted it,
but then again it was homemade but I just don't want to take any chances.
I am definitely going with ButterCream. My sister had it at her wedding
and it was really good. I absolutely love whipped Cream but I am getting
married in July and although it will be indoors (AC)? I don't think it will
hold up but I will as my CH.

Edit: What about white chocolate frosting? is it extra$$? my friend says
she is having this with raspberry filling. She says that her CH gave it to
her for free since she was having such a big wedding and was paying
for so many extras.

My CH said whipped cream wouldn't hold some of the designs i wanted on the cake...
so buttercream it is. it will be pink on top and white on the sides with chocolate icing swirls and hearts on top (it matches a picture of my mom's wedding cake!)

We will probably be having the fondant with the thin layer of buttercream underneath. I want to be able to leave the cake out for a while so people can see it, so I have to check with the baker if we can do it this way. I was told the fondant is not extra at my hall, and a lot of people don't eat the cake anyway (or eat around the icing) so I want it to look nice.

We're hoping ours will be chocolate ganache.
