Spinoff of 'Who's Walking You Down the Aisle' post

I really thought I had my mind made up about walking down the aisle alone. I made the decision to do so when I was not on speaking terms with my father, and now we're speaking again and I'm confused. When I read that post and saw that everyone was walking down the aisle with one or both parents, or another relative, I started to rethink my decision. Now I really don't know what to do. Is walking down the aisle alone something I'll regret?

Let me also add that my dad was pretty much relieved when I told him he didn't have to walk me down the aisle (he is not the most social person I have ever met, to put it lightly).

Oh boy I am confused!!!!!!!

Edited for spelling.

You have to do what you will be most comfortable with. You definitely don't want to regret anything, so my suggestion is to think about it a lot more before jumping to any decisions. And Follow your heart, I am sure it will steer you in the right direction!!

I agree!
I am walking alone. I don't speak to my father. I could have easily had my mother or grandfather walk me down but it feels natural for me to go on my own.

My friends got married in the hall, and what they did I thought was cute. He stood at the back of the room, by the last row of seats, and then whent he music started the doors opened, and she walked in a few feet and met up with him & they walked down the aisle together.I don't know what your room looks like, but maybe you could do that?

Yeah, I couldn't walk down the aisle with any other person but my dad. Someone had suggested my mom, but IMO it seemed like such a slap in the face to my father, since he is still living and would most likely be at the wedding.

I don't know....to be honest I was nervous about him walking me down the aisle before we had any problems....as I said before he is not very comfortable in big social situations. I am glad to hear that I am not the only one who wants to go alone!

IMO i would either ask my dad or go by myself. I agree that having anyone else would be a slap in the face.

Don't worry about what everyone else is doing. This is very personal, and you have to do what's most comfortable for you.

Do you like the idea of FI meeting you in the aisle? It's a nice compromise to walking alone or with your reluctant father.

I am either walking down alone or my FI will meet me halfway. My dad isnt around to walk me down and I feel funny having my mom, although my sister did it.

You have to do what feels right to you. What about instead of just your dad having both your parents?

That's the other thing, my parents split up in late Summer 2002, and have not spoken since. My mom doesn't even want to be in the same room with my dad. So it makes it near impossible to get them both to walk me down. I don't even know how I'm going to get them to walk into the reception together.

It wasn't just that post from the other day that got me thinking about this topic. I sometimes talk about the wedding with my boss, who got married about 15 or so years ago. And she spends a lot of time telling me what she regrets about her wedding to this day. Her father passed away about a year after she got married, and she's always telling me she wished that someone had gotten better pictures of them dancing, walking down the aisle, etc, and the impression I get from her is that the things about your wedding that involve your loved ones are the things that most people end up regretting. I don't know, I feel like a schmo for going on like this about it, but it's a subject that is difficult for me to come to terms with.....

I appreciate all of the feedback you girls have given so far.....

I'm having my Uncle walk me down the aisle. I haven't spoken to my father in years, so he's out of the question. I thought about walking down alone, then I thought about my Uncle. He's done a lot for me and I thought he would be very honored. And he only has sons, so this is his once chance to do that

If only everyone knew what pains in the
a@$%* they were being!!! It is hard to be unconventional at a very traditional event, but I wish you luck!

Maybe since he isn't comfortable walking you down the aisle either, you could walk alone or meet FH. Then at the reception, do the tradional dance with him, so you are not leaving him out completely.

If you do it that way, I personally like the idea of walking down with or meeting halfway your FH, bc/ then its like you are making a statement (we are in this together before & after) in case you are worried that if you go alone people a re gonna wonder why you didn't ask your dad . ( If you care about these things---you might not, but I worry too much about what other people think.)
