How do you know what day you're on? Meaning, when do you start counting?

Day 1 of your AF is day 1 of your cycle.

no the first day of AF is counted as day 1 of your cycle.

Ok....so my GYN said my most fertile days would be day 12, 14 & 16 day of my cycle so that would be the 12th, 14th & 16th day after Aunt Flo?
Gosh...I feel dumb....its amazing how little I know about my own body!

You are not dumb at all sweetie. You can have my book (Taking Charge of your Fertility) if you would like it. I only learned about all this stuff since I read the book and has been asking questions. That is why we are all here.
If your cycle is regular you can count on those dates, if not you will have to either chart, watch your Cervical Mucus, or use an Ovulation Predictor Kit
PS but some women have short phases and some women have longer phases so you cannot count on those dates, b/c you can either assume too early or too late.
