SPINOFF On Wedding Diet- TIPS

OK, maybe we should try to share some tips on things that seem to work as far as loosing weight. Here's mine:

1. Applebee's and McDonalds. Going out to lunch is big at my office so I try to stear them to these places. Applebee's has a really good weight watchers section on their menu and McDonalds has some pretty low fat/cal salads. Get the grilled chicken not the fried. Checkout their website for nutrition info.

2. Have healthy snacks around. I have dried fruit and applesauce.

3. Reduced fat/Baked/Lite everything! Cheeses,Chips,Mayo

K. maybe this will help someone. anyone got tips for me?

When I want chocolate, I try to have sugar free hot cocoa, it's only 40 calories and helps with the chocolate craving.

I agree with keeping better snacks around. I have thin crisps in my desk.

Also - bringing lunch helps a lot besides saving money I can control what I am eating.

ok-- well... instead of goign out to lunch-- you should pack a lunch and bring it to work-- also breakfast if you don't have time to make at home.

The more you have control over what you are eating, the less opportunities to deviate from a diet.

Planning is everything- plan out all your meals so you make sure you control your calorie intake, and again- less chances for spontaneous snacking.

You HAVE to exercise--as much as you can.. a minimum of 6 hours a week..

Do not have snacks in the house-- you'll have the craving and want something- even contemplate going out and getting a snack-- if it's not there, you won't eat it. Have a cup of herbal tea instead to squash the sweet tooth-- or is you wait long enough- the craving/hunger will go away..

I try to really stick to my eating plan during the week, so that if I happen to splurge on the weekend or have to grab something on the run while doing errands - there really isnt much damage.

Also, wrt exercise - weight training has really been the key for me! It changes your body!!

For snacks, I like sugar-free pudding made with skim milk. Makes me feel like I'm eating a real dessert.

I also have a playlist on my iPod that I only listen to at the gym. It has a bunch of my favorite songs on it, and makes me feel more motivated to work out.

In addition:

- Try not to eat anything WHITE (potatoes, pasta, mayo, sour cream, white bread, etc...) Make sure it's BROWN.

- Get Calcium - it aids in weight loss

- Take your vitamins, they help.

- Start the day off with a big breakfast - it will get your metablism up and running. Slowly decrease the amount you eat throughout the day. Dinner should not be a huge meal.

- Graze all day

- As much veggies as you can stand!

- Pack in the Fiber and Fiber rich foods.

- Reward yourself and eat what you want one day per week - it does not hurt, and studies are now showing that eating alot every once in a while keeps your metablism guessing and burning - eating the exact same amount every day will have you in a plateau.

Just came back from wendy's. They have great salads and if you decide to get a combo meal you can trade your fries in for a side salad. Yummy!!

Also, Keep a journal of everything you eat. Its the best approach for strict diets!

94% fat free popcorn is a good filler too.

I know I need to exercise and eat reasonably. I've become such a slug though. I think running around and spending the majority of my weekend time on wedding arrangements hasn't helped.

But your notes are inspiring me to start tonight! I'm hitting the gym and not getting takeout for dinner tonight!

-FIBER,FIBER,FIBER!!!

-Don't deprive yourself too much, that only makes it worse. If you want a piece of chocolate, have a hershey kiss. If you don't listen to your cravings, then you'll end up eating a whole candy bar!

Veggies, fruit and yogurt!

Grilled chicken!

Can get boring, but it works!

Definitely, definitely water! Fills you right up. I agree, fix your meals as much a head of time as possible. Six small meals a day consisting of one protein, one carb and then at least two servings a day of vegetables. It really does work because you are never really starving for food which is my enemy: the minute I get famished is the minute I grab for something fattening.

Excercise too but make sure to mix it up and not just do the same routine because I can get SO bored doing the same thing over and over.

EXERCISE, EXERCISE,EXERCISE- I am up to 5 to 6 days a week for a minimum of 45 minutes. 3-4 days a week really won't cut it unless you are willing to sacrifice some 'fun' food and alcohol completely!

Also don't stop eating, you slow down your metabolism- eat a minimum of 5 times a day about 300 calories each meal.

Add yogurt to your diet- Yoplait makes amazing fat free ones- On my news in Ca this morning they said it is the only PROVEN food that will help you lose weight. I eat at least 4 a week.

Hope this helps- I have managed to drop over 7 pounds since January and plan to lose about 8 more. Do it slowly and it will work.

If Fiber is hard to put in your diet, I keep reading in the magazines, a teaspoon before each meal..like Metamucil (orange flavor)--will do the trick.

Re: SPINOFF On Wedding Diet- TIPS

Lean meats and cheeses, lot of veggies, and low carbs. Most of your hamburger recipes can be replaced with ground turkey. My FI recently made AMAZING turkey meatballs, turkey meatloaf, and turkey chili.

Look into chocolate Velamints in your mint and gum aisle. They are sugar-free and can really help when you have a chocolate craving.

Luckily, my FI is a great cook. He's always experimenting with different sauces to use with chicken and fish. He's done a low-fat tzitzki sauce (I know I misspelled that), peanut sauce, satay sauce, tequila-lime sauce, etc. It really helps keep things from getting boring.

Eat 5 small meals, drink your water, and get your exercise - both cardio AND weight training. I read a formula once that said in addition to the usual 8 glasses per day, a person should drink another 8 oz. for every 25lbs. they are over-weight. This helps flush out all the toxins!

Doing these things, I'v lost about 35lbs. since mid-December.

I totally agree with this...I DEFINITELY find myself splurging at least one day during the weekend - and I usually find my weight drop a few days later.
