spinoff- parents gifts- are they necessary?

do you still have to buy your parents gifts if you are paying for your own wedding? and you're paying for your own rehearsal dinner? i'm just not sure i see the point, and at this point i really don't even want to start to think about what to get them...is this a common practice and i am a horrible person if i don't get anything? maybe i can make it up at xmas time

i think it's entirely up to you - however...without your parents up-bringing, would you be with your FH now?

they may not have given you financial support for your wedding - but you are the person you are today because of them.

i understand what you are saying and i'm very grateful for my mother (my father unfortunately passed away a month after i was engaged) and i did give her a really nice xmas gift this past xmas and told her that it was in appreciation for helping with me with everything for the wedding...i'm also very grateful to FH's parents and got them very nice xmas gifts as well...i'm just really wondering if this is a common practice to have buy them a gift before the wedding as well...

I think if they all know your situation and that you're paying for everything, they're probably not expecting gifts and the pictures will be enough. Plus I've never seen anyone give the parents gifts before these past few years...so again- they may not expect gifts.

I, too, was wondering about this. We are paying for about 95% of the wedding, and I really wasnt planning on going all out on gifts for our parents. We did get the parent albums, so that may just have to suffice as their gift, considering we are paying extra for it.
I think a nice card with heartfelt words in it will have to do, considering we will be strapped for cash.
