Spinoff post for the placecard holders

For a small wedding (50 ppl), it is ok to put the placecards on the actual plates? we're only having 6 or 7 tables.

I'm sure its fine. The only problem I would have with that is then it feels like totally assigned seating.

That's what I said when FH suggested that's what we do.

does the hall put the numbered signs on the tables, or is that something we would have to supply?

The hall puts table numbers if requested. Do place cards on a separate table so people feel that they don't have to sit in the seat assigned.

Thanks for the info

should I get the placecards written by a calligrapher (or in my case, my best girlfriend's Dad), or can I do them myself?

How nice is your handwriting? If its good, I say no need for calligrapher. I went to a wedding this weekend and they were handwritten by bride and came out just fine.

My handwriting is average... I guess I could ask my Mom to write them out. Her handwriting is nicer than mine.

Thanks for the tip

The hall usually supplies the table #s. We didn't like what their table #s looked like, so we did them ourselves (didn't go with the look I was trying to achieve).

Oh and I printed out the placecards on the computer, cut them out and put them in frames. I couldn't see paying extra for something I could do myself. I like that kind of stuff. If you don't, or don't have time, you could use a calligrapher (or inlist some LIW gals )

They sell sheets of placecards at most crafty stores (AC Moore, Michaels) or even Staples. I actually used regular patterned paper that matched my menus, petal cones, etc., and cut them all out by hand to fit in the frames I got. It can be really easy, to really tedious. Depends what you want.
