SPINOFF : The first time you told your SO you loved him/her...

Was it a special, big event? What was it like>

For me, with every boyfrined, because of what I said in the alt post, how tell my close firends I love them and me and my bf's were frineds first in each case, we had already told each other that we loved each other beforehand, or we were frirnds, so the context wasnt clear. With FH We had just been on one or two dates, and it was the dat after the junior prom (basically our 2nd date) and I knew he was going out for the dya, but ti was his birthdya, so I called him at 9am to wish him a happy birthday and he groggily said 'I love you.' and it thrilled me, even though I knew it was probably in the friendly context, however, to this day he swears he meant it, even then.

The only time it was SOrt of monumentous was a bf I had before FH. We'd been frineds for a long time and he always liked me, but I just wanted ot be frineds, and je's bilingual, and I spoke spanish pretty well also, and we'd say 'te quiero' (the way you'd day 'i love you' to a frined), but then he started saying 'te amo', and I'd always say 'te quiero' back, trying to just be firneds even though I knew he had a thing for me, then we started dating, and one night we were coming back from a party (of course I was drunk..lol) and I said 'te amo'...he was very happy. I was very drunk, but I did love him

I wouldnt say it was a big event but it was special.

It was our first trip to Atlantic City together. Me and Don went for a walk on the boardwalk and he said he wanted to stop and talk to me and he told me that he loved me. It was very romantic, the sun had just begun to set.

Marymoon - Stuy had a Jr Prom?????? I campaigned to have one in my Jr year to no avail!!! Nice to know they stepped up 15 years later!!!

the first time my DH said I love you to me was when he was bring me home from going to the movies and he said to me in the car that he loved me and he was like i should not have said that because it was only 2 months that we were going out. and I was like I love you too.

Okay, I'm a big loser!!! I said it first and he didn't say it back!!!! We had been dating for about 7 months or so, he had been at my place and was leaving and I told him I needed to tell him a secret. I whispered it in his ear and he said 'That's a secret?' and then left!!!

So fast forward 4 months later, we're at his place one night, just fooling around and he gets out a sketch pad and tells me he wants to draw me...um, okay...well he scribbles a bit and when he's done, he turns it around and it's a big heart with I love you in it.

It was worth waiting for He's told me that I'm the only girl he's ever said I love you to, he wanted be sure that this was the real thing Now, he says it all the time, especially in the last 48 hours or so....not sure what he wants...

fh told me on our second date - we were in his room, knid of making out and he just said it - but I didn't say it back. a few nights later, he said it again - and this time, I had to say it back....he is such a mush!!!

we were on our cross country trip and staying with a co worker who had moved out to oregon..he had said it to me a few days before without a response from me but we were going to sleep that night and i looked down at him and told him i was falling in love with him. i remember it so clearly because the look on his face was utter shock that i actually said it

I remember when we said it to each other. We had been dating about 5 months. I went with him to band rehearsal at our friend's house.
Afterwards, I was waiting by my car door for him to open it for me (because he always opens it for me ) and he just held me and said a bunch of sweet things and said 'Did I ever tell you that I'm falling in love with you?' I said it right back to him.

The first time he said it to me was after dating for 5 months!---on New Years Eve night, and then I said it back.......

the first time FH said it was when we got back from summer vactation for my last year of college. We had only dated a month at school before school ended but became good friends over the summer - when we saw each other one weekend over the summer and everything went perfect- i couldn't wait to start school that yer ( we had a little over a month to wait from the last time we had seen each other - our feeling needed the time to sink in

THEY DID! And it was 100x better than the senior prom! At the Marriot World Financial Center! It was the BEST. The senior prom stank.

FH did it in the funniest way. He sent me an EMAIL!! He never said it before to anyone and I guess wasn't too sure of how to go about it. I still have it saved, let me see if I can find it, I'll post it. He put it in the middle of the email, kind of like 'It's raining outside. Going to get my car washed after work. I love you. I need new sneakers.'

hi, sorry i wasn't around when you called, i went to scot's to play cards. i
am not feeling that great, hopefully i will feel better in the morning. the
car dealer went well, no cars were available for a test drive, but i was
more concerned with money than driving it. i am confused because on paper i
should be able to afford it, but in reality i don't feel like i have all
that extra money around, i am going to discuss it with a few people before i
make any decisions. most importantly i want to let you know i had a really
wonderful weekend with you, you said that you feel everyone comes into your
life at a certain time for a reason, i'm not sure i believe that, but i know
that we teach each other a lot about ourselves and that is really wonderful.
also i wasn't sure what the proper etiquette was as far as letting our
feelings out about each other but i decided to let you know that i love you.
it can't be improper to say it if that is what i feel. i am not quite sure
about the context of it, i am not trying to say that i love you and we
should be together forever or anything along those lines, just that i love
who you are, and i am really happy you are in my life.

...and I love the typical guy disclaimer...I'm not saying that I love you and want to be with you forever ...little did he know, you would put that thought out of his mind before he could hit send!!!

Much better than Seb, though, who just ran out of my apartment as fast as his little rugby-playing British legs could carry him...

He first told me on the phone! Well we were in a long distance relationship at the time and it was my birthday (2 months after we met). He called me from the supermarket and was asking me about my day and if I got everything I wanted. I told him no, I wish he was there. He said he wished he was there too and he loved me.
WOW! He didn't want to say it right then in the school supplies aisle of the store but we weren't going to see each other for another 3 weeks and he didn't want to wait!
I told him I loved him too...
