What are you planning to get your FIL's for Christmas? Do you get a separate gift for each in-law or a joint gift?

depends.. this year i got them a jets cookie jar i saw it on sale and they are an obsessed family so i thought it was cute.. and ill pick up something else i dont usually go crazy

we dont get each other anything anymore ....we only get his neice a bunch of stuff since her bday is 3 days later ....it's better off i never liked anythign they got me anyway! ...that sounded really mean but its true
if u wanna get them something i would say a gift certificate to their fav restaurant or something like that

last year i got his dad margarita mix( his fav) and him mom a christmas wine bottle top.. and then a giftcertificate to go out to dinner for the both of them

FH family has this weird tradition and it makes me so uncomfortable.
They sit in a circle and pass out the gift.. then the go one by one around the room untill everyones done opening their gifts and you have to hold it it and say who it came from.. I HATE IT!

in the past 2 years 2 of his cousins got married and they werent there for the holidays.. so this year we will all be there so all the spouses will have the least amount of gifts..
does anyone elses family do this?

NO! We don't do anything like that. I would love to get his parents a gift certificate to a rest. but they hardly ever go out and they live upstate, so I'm not sure how I would swing that one. I was actually thinking of just getting them these really cute Lenox Christmas salt & pepper shakers. I'm not too concerned about their gift. Just curious what ya'll do for the FIL's....

Last year I sent them a cheesecake from Juniors (since I wasn't there) but I will be with them this year. I have no idea what to get or expect....I'll probably get a combo-gift......

well years ago i wanted to impress them so i started getting them these ridiculously expensive gifts - his mom LOVES lenox so i would get like the HUGE lenox carousel or something like that. . . and this christmas i cant afford to do that so i feel really bad but i know she will understand
anyway i think we are getting them a gift cert to ruth's chris so that way its for both parents - his dad always complains about how joint gifts are really only for the woman ( i guess he didnt like the carousel LOL)

we do seperate gifts. I tried doing a combined gift last year for FH's parents (it was a basket with goodies - for FFIL- and a pretty jar -for MIL- filled with pistacios and his mother loved it but everything that FFIL picked he kept saying stuff outloud to his wife like 'look another thing you like dear!'
He made it VERY obvious that he was waiting for a gift that was for him and there wasn't any. Live and learn I guess.
**I had also hand knitted FMIL an afghan cause I knew it was something she would really appreciate, so I guess when FFIL saw that he was expecting to get a 'special' gift too.

Well my FMIL is deceased so I just buy for FFIL I don't really remember anything else I got him for previous years other than a fleece or shirt...One year I got him a framed Coat of Arms with the Family crest
2 years ago Dan and I made his dad a basket of margarita mix and gc for pizzaria uno, some liquors for margarita and a gc to get a massage.
Last year I bought him a blender and a bucket of mixes for his annual new years even party...
This year I was thinking of getting him a mounted Coat of Arms with the Buckley family crest with swords going through it...I don't know if I need to get for my FBILs though- there's 3 of them...opinions on this?

i usually get FMIL and FMIL things for their house. They are the cheapest people in the world and dont buy anything for themselves, so its so easy for me to talk into a store and buy for them.
The people who are the cheapest are usually the ones sitting on a pile of cash...

we do joint gifts. ffil passed away and fmil is always stressed out/busy doing a million and one things for other ppl...so we get her a spa gift certificate so she can pamper herself and relax.
my parents - we get them stuff for their hobbies, stuff for the house and a million and 1 books cuz i work at a publishing company....but i dont count the books as gifts.

it depends what I see. Last year I bought them an entertainment book (it's a book with coupons to all sorts of restaurants and activities) b/c they just moved to NJ and they didn't know the area so I thought it would be a great gift. The year before they got separate gifts. This year I think we're getting them tickets to a broadway show.
